Default 2001 Sc1. Service wrench & security lights on after battery replaced.

Hello everyone. I need some help with my father in laws 2001 Sc1. This car has never required warranty service.

The battery died about a week and a half ago. We had it replaced. A few days ago he noticed the service wrench and security lights on. They were not there before we replaced the battery.

I've unhooked the battery for an hour. No luck. I'm trying the security relearn procedure of leaving the key in the on position for 30 mins now.

Can anyone shed any other light on what could be happening?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Board.

We will need the codes that are causing the lights to come on to help you.

Replacing the battery should not cause those lights to come on. If they were not on immediatly after replacing the battery then something else has caused the lights to come on.

If the car starts and runs there is no need to do the passlock relearn proceedure.

The Service Wrench and Security lights don't set codes, do they? Well, not OBDII codes anyway. Right?

They set codes. Any GM car 1996 and newer will display "OBD 2" codes because the systems are OBD 2 but not all of the codes are the letter and four digit codes.
Chances are that the codes will not be able to be read by something like Autozone code readers.

The only code present was a pcm reset that probably happened when the battery was replaced. There are no other history, current or pending codes to be found. We have an OTC Genesis scan tool at work.

We unfortunetly don't know when the lights started for sure. He noticed them a few days ago but he's one of those people who'd keep driving if a wheel fell off.

Even the Genesis may not be able to check these codes unless it has the correct software. The only thing that the service manual states on the service light is to get codes and refer to the appropiate code diagnosis.

So, with that light coming on and staying on steady, does that mean it has deactivated itself due to the fault?

I'm not sure it's worth more diagnosis if it won't have effect on the car.

There is something wrong with the car and you ignore it at your peril. You'll need to go to a GM (preferably Saturn) dealer to find out what the lights are indicating. Unfortunately, that's probably going to cost you around $100.

Well, we did just that today. They reprogrammed the anti-theft system and now the security light flashes and cuts off the fuel after 2-3 seconds when trying to start the car. It did drive home ok.
