Default 95SL2 PCV square cornered "S" shape Hose cracked

In failing to find anything in the "How-To" Library, something tells me that someone (((>it was probably Wolfman <))) had written that when replacing that 'hose', one should not us a fuel line hose.

I'm asking if I can use this for now, as I'm unable to actually pick up the squared cornered "S" shaped PCV hose unit; For I have a 7.9mm ID (((>inner diameter<))) hose, which I'd like to use.

Comments from anyone

Why can't you use a hose compatable with the fuel system? I too am curious. A hose compatable with the fuel system would be compatable with petrolium. The PCV is venting vapors that have oil and other blow by gasses which are petrolium based. So why wouldn't you want a hose that is compatable with these products?

Other than that I guess you need to go to a auto parts store and ask for vacuum hose. It may be hard to find in that size.

I would just make sure it's not a material that's gonna collapse under the vacuum from the manifold (it's pretty strong).

The hose material and size I'm planning on using, will definitely, and said with considerable confidence, NOT collapse.

As I indicated, my concern that there was a reason for only using a hose designed specfically for the PCV gas/fumes.

Odd...my memory is exactly opposite yours. I seem to remember a post from Wolfman saying it was okay to use fuel hose. Just make sure it doesn't kink.

That's it. It's such a short hose with just enough of a bend to it, it's hard for some plain cut hose to conform. I think I picked it up (preformed) at Saturn for $2 and change.

Keep in mind, I'm referring to the hose unit, which handles the PCV.

You got it backwards Luke...I actually recommend using fuel line hose as a less expensive option to replace the PCV line vacuum hose. (Sold by the foot at most autoparts stores)

> Wolfman < Thank you for the alert. What I did earlier this morning was to replace the PCV Hose set-up with the hose that actually is used running from the right top side of the vavle cover over to the air intake. It's a pre-formed squared cornered "S" shaped. I had an extra one, and it fits rather well -- not perfectly, but it's better than the cracked unit I took off.

I should note, I was planning on using a fuel line for a temporary set up, but found that my line was just a little too tight -- 7.9mm ID. I'm sure it would have fit, but I just want to get a correct hose.

I'll do that on my drive back home tomorrow afternoon, as I drive by a PepBoys, as well as a Kragen, both of which I visit regularly.

I recommend actually going to a napa or carquest, as they're more likely to sell by the foot. Consumer type auto parts stores will give you a blister back of 6 feet of hose, what will you do with the rest?

7.9mm? huh? Back east we use 3/8" (slightly tight) or 13/32" (just right but hard to find). They sometimes call it "emissions hose" and the cooler stores you can see the different reels of what they have.

When you route it, give yourself some slack and gentle bends-- don't try to recreate the tight corners of the stock piece. Tight corners are crimp & kink opportunities. You can always route it and cut another inch off if it's not working right yet.

Whatever you do don't waste gas chasing a 50 cent discount on hose either.

While many parts stores have fuel line in blister packs. I've yet to see one that didn't sell it by the foot as well.

I'm very sensitive to that issue, for I'm going to just "circle the hosing around; There will be no kink possible.

Actually the correct hose measurement would be 9.5mm ID. It's perfect, but, the one I have is simply too short.

The napa, checker, and autozone near me sell them by the inches.

I correct myself, its 11/32 not 13/32".

But 3/8" won't do you wrong.

Yesterday, on the way home, I picked up a 3' length of 3/8 [10.0 mm] hose. Working perfectly; Will allow me time to see if I can go back to the original set up. Not that important, but I'm in to keeping things as close to original as possible.
