Default 95 SL Anti-Theft removal?

I have a 95 SL will 200K (200501) miles on it..

Of course because of that I have had new just about everything...

My car is not starting, no clicking, full power comes on. Checked the battery, alternator and starter, all checked out fine.

Turns out its the ATS system, looks like it may be a short and is not allowing the car to start at all. Saturn dealer said best thing to do is just have it removed altogether.

Has anyone removed their ATS system or played with it enough to know if its feasible to do myself. I haven't gotten in their to check it out fully yet because I wanted to know if its worth the effort first.

Thanks.

Is this a Factory system. The reason I asked, I started with a 95 SL-2 and currently own one. It does not have a anti-theft system except on the radio.

It is factory...it has a little chip that you pull out to de-activate it and the car won't start without it.

Right now it acts as if the chip is not in

Do you mean it has one of those goofy plastic things that fits in to a slotted thingy under the dash? If so, that is not a factory set-up. To my knowledge, no '95 came with a "factory" anti-theft system. Anything your '95 may have is very likely dealer installed.

Those goofy anti-theft systems with the funny black plastic "key" were a complete joke from day one. They're also incredibly easy to remove.

My brothers old 1993 SL2 had one of those chip anti-theft pieces of garbage. You could shove a quarter in it and the car would start.

I understand all of that....back to my original question...

HOW? I am just wondering if its connected to anything essential, or if its worth that 160 bucks for the deal to remove it?

Thanks...

trace back the wiring and see how it gets +12 volts. Then snip that wire. This, of course is AFTER you've disconnected the battery.
