2005 VUE 3.5L
Dizzy 2005 Vue FWD 3.5 bearing noise

Only hear this bearing type noise after vehicle on the road for a few miles more audible at 40 plus mph slight pitch like air blowing thru a running fan and whirring type sound when slowing down. Took it to a mechanic and they checked both front wheel bearings, power belt, and pulleys all ok. Sounds can drive you crazy. I'm thinking could it be a tire but only after it warms up?
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance

I know you said you have a FWD Vue, but what you describe is common problem with AWD 3.5 Vue's. You are describing the textbook sound of the center support bearing on the driveshaft. It squeals like a teapot and can have the vibrational sound while descending.

If you do have an AWD Vue, removing the drive shaft is easy and will quickly confrim if this is your issue.

before you go crazy investigating the bearings.. do a quick check of the brake dust shields... I had a similar noise that was driving me crazy... It turned out to be the brake dust shield, rubbing against the rotor.. and I could only hear it when driving around 30 mph or more..

simple fix.. just pry/bend the shield away from the rotor slightly.. and problem is gone..

Thanks for the tip, had it checked it was not it and also it was not the drive shaft bearing they feel its in the transmission but I'm going for a second opinion.

check the tranny fluid level before you go.. and when was the fluid last changed..? Low fluid levels may be contributing to that noise?

Default Re: 2005 Vue FWD 3.5 bearing noise

Imchu,
Time for a trans fluid drain and fill...
And I just did a wheel bearing on the right side. That one was easy... When I go to do left side... that could be less fun as it has never been done as far as I know.... and I have had my car for over 3 years...

08 Equinox Sport 3.6 6 spd auto, AWD, even more loaded. And the jury is still out on it.

2005 VUE 3.5L
Happy Re: 2005 Vue FWD 3.5 bearing noise

Update: Both front wheel bearings were worn, changed them out with Timkens.
I don't know what original manufacturers that came out but served me well for 216k miles. One rear wheel still has original bearing, I'll keep an ear out.
Thanks to all for the tips.

215k on your wheel bearings!!!!!! I replaced four on my 04 vue within 75k miles, traded in that car! First time I had to work on a wheel bearing in 45 years, go figure.
