Default oh no! What did I break?!?!?

so, i just did my fuel filter replacement and cleaned my TB. waited about 45 minutes to let the little bits of gas disperse, then went to start the car.
i was thinking, so i put it in run, listened for the fuel pump to prime, smelled around for gas, then started it. first try, it cranked and cranked, but didn't quite catch. second start, it caught, jumped to about 4k rpm and hovered, then settled to 3.5k. i let it "idle" there for about a minute and it gave no sign of dropping, so i shut it off, and tried again, still 3.5k.

any guesses?

Did you remove the TB to clean it? If so you may have a vacume leak. Did you replace the TB gasket? Linkage may be in a bind also.

Vacuum leak. Or, you left the IAC disconnected.

Have you tried letting it run for a couple more minutes? It could be running super rich off of the cleaner you used. Mine idled super hight when I did my TB cleaning.

i used just straight lacquer thinner. it sat in my garage airing out for about 45 minutes while i found a source of light and changed my fuel filter.
it's run for probably a total of about 3 minutes, and i did pull and replace the PCM B fuse, just in case.

sprayed around the vacuum lines to no avail.

oh, and, the IAC connector is firmly seated.

as is the TPS,

ok. it is fixed. it was one of two things-
either the IACV wasn't cleaned well enough (i didn't take it off the first time, just brushed what i could reach) and was therefore stuck open
or
the TB wasn't seated correctly. either not tight enough or the gasket wasn't lined up or something like that.

i took the TB back off, cleaned the IACV and reinstalled it and it idles beautifully now.

Maybe the TB cleaning knocked some carbon deposits loose within or into the IAC and made the pintle get stuck? Or the IAC pintle was kind of stuck, but the passage in the TB that the IAC uses was also clogged so you didn't get a high idle, but when you cleaned out the TB you opened up the passage, letting in extra air until you cleaned the IAC?

The IAC is tough to jam up. I still thing you had a TB gasket leak.
