Default True Saturn owner radiator fix.

I've been doing it all wrong all these years. You dont need to replace a radiator with a cracked end tank. Just repair it yourself.

Found this at the local pick-n-pull.

Cool colors. How was the paint job? the head liner?

One more reason to avoid pick-n-pull radiators.

i dont know how many of you watch the show "mythbusters" on discovery channel, but there is an episode where they actually used an egg the plug a whole in a radiator(removed the radiator cap, cracked an egg and pored the raw egg into the radiator)... and it worked! but they didn't say how long that lasted, i'm sure it would cause some type of damage to the rest of the cooling system components.

I'm going to assume the "mechanic" who did that repair never heard of "Saturnfans.com"... . Why didn't he just use a piece of chewing gum?

Because he had the RTV laying around, and he would have had to spend money on the chewing gum. (Chewing tobacco would not have held....)

Maybe add a can of water pump lube/corrosion inhibiter with that egg

That RTV goop job should keep any water out if the vehicle ever happens to be in a flood. Good preventative maint

My guess is that he turned to the RTV sealant because the duct tape kept falling off... .

I tested eggs in my old '92 SL2 when we were taking it off to hopefully be destroyed in an explosion (it got towed before we got back the next day to drag it out to its final destination). I had come off of an embankment too fast in the car while I was just screwing around off road and jumped it (it was the ultimate hell raiser, so this wasn't too out of the ordinary). The car did a nose dive this time, though, and ruined the radiator. So I got it back to Papa John's (where I work) and it sat for a bit.

Well, when a friend and I went back to get it, we decided to test out this egg myth. Now, even though we had to put it in the overflow tank rather than the radiator, it still worked. It held enough water to get it about 1/2 mile from the lot we were going to leave it in overnight before it all leaked out and the car overheated (again...). Of course, I just drove it the rest of the way, where it was apparently towed the next morning.

There was quite a crack in the radiator, so I was quite shocked to see that the eggs held it. Of course, I would never do this to a car I truly cared about on more than a beater level, but interesting none the less.
