Default Re: Brake Rotors

I would also like to mention this as it happened on my other trunk before.

Over-torqueing your tires. As in my case I got some tires from a discount tire place and had to the mount and balance and install them. However, someone used a air tool to tighten the nuts without using the proper torque setting or the tool was messed up. Either case it wasn’t torqued properly, and that caused stress on your rotor.

I know OP has bought already, but I want to put a shout out for Bosch Quiet Cast rotors. We live in the rust belt and all cheap rotors rust in from the outside so bad, they then eat the pads and end up with about 1/2 the actual rotor surface actually doing any braking.

The QuietCast seems to be a higher quality rotor. Sure, still made in China, but they "utilize innovative materials that ensure the highest quality performance, prevent rust and corrosion with clear-look coating protection" Very smooth operation. Heck, the coating is so good, they don't even come from the factory oiled, as is isn't necessary.

They aren't cross drilled or anything special, but I have then on 3 cars with 2 winters use and there is VERY little rust forming where regular rotors would be getting eaten from the outside edge.

Not cheap, but not expensive and have worked great for us here in rust land.

Bob.

"...I put a set of the Max Brakes kits on my Vue about six months ago. I have been very happy and it does seem to have improved stopping overall. I went the slotted and cross drilled rotors with ceramic brake pads ...

Ditto on my 04 Vue. Found them on amazon

$80 for rotors and pads for BOTH front wheels in one kit.

Free shipping from Ontario Canada to NY only took 3 days.

the crappy rotors and cheap pads from any auto parts store would have cost more than twice as much.

The brakes on my Vue never worked so well, not even when new.

2008 VUE 3.6L
Default Re: Brake Rotors

I just put the Max Brakes cross drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads on my Vue, also dialed out the rear shoes till they were just touching the drums like they are supposed to be. My Vue is stopping much better now!!!! 😁. Properly adjusted rears play a HUGE role In pedal firmness and front pad and rotor longevity... If you are going through front pads and rotors quickly, or are warping rotors and hoses are good and slides greased, check rear adjustment.

For all SaturnFans who bought and installed Maxbrakes on their Vues.

How would you rate the performance of the parts installed? Price looks really good.

Thanks for all replies.

They did bring the Vue back in 2012 as the Chevy Captiva and sold it until 2015.

I'd rate them a 10 out of 10. Had them on for a couple years now (I think) and there is no warping and they still haul the Vue to a stop better than the OEM versions.

Thanks for the reply. I did order a set of the "best of the best" version. Added the brake hardware kit as well. Still under US$90.00 with free ship to San Diego! I checked local auto parts including RockAuto. Nobody came close.

Your recommendation just confirms the purchase .

Fresh brake fluid and close inspection and adjust of rear shoes will be done.

--> HUGE SaturnFans hero will pass on the info to other Vue owners. This is a good deal for performance upgrade with major price savings!

NICE!

Just a heads up for anyone on the fence about purchasing. The kit is on sale at a deeper discount, $53.60. Just placed my order. It was going to cost me $30 to have my current rotors turned so i figured i could fork over another $24 for the maxbrakes set.
