A loose torque converter bolt can tick as it backs out. If all three fall out you have lots of neutrals. LOL

Cracked flexplate. It took 2 weeks to do it but its back up and going again. The center was almost all cracked out. Lucky I stopped driving it when I did.

That's really wild! This seems to be a rare failure, generally, although I'm sorry it happened to you.

Very common if the bolts to the crank were not torqued properly and came loose.

In general, I see your point - but really......very common? The operative word in the quote above is the qualifier, "if." Out of every 10,000 cars produced by any given manufacturer, how many are likely to have this kind of problem present?

Out of the factory not so common but I have replaced a few of flex plates from back yard mechanics that either didn't tighten them enough or over torqued the bolts when doing engine replacement from manual to auto trans. I can not recall (Daewoo comes to mind) which Korean car manufacture it was back in the late 90s and early 2000s that had a recall because the flex plate bolts were not torqued properly.

We changed quite a few 77-78 Jeep Wagoneer flexplates and Chevy pickups and Suburban flexplates in the early 80s and they were all oem installs. Not many since. Lots of other problems but no flexplates.
