lol wow, its only temporary because my car was damaged an they only wanted to paint the damaged area, it would have come out two tone so I am saving until I can have the whole body done so it isn't two tone. It is all removable, looks like I am the only one on here who isn't afraid to try something different. Oh and sorry for using "entire", didn't realize you would all have a little fit about that, please suggest another word if you feel it will better suit the title.

That is cool! How much did it cost to have done? A friend wants to get his new S4 dipped black before next winter, to save the paint from salt and crud. The coverage looks very even too, guess having it done with a proper paint gun gives much better consistency than the rattle cans.

How are you liking the texture? When I dipped my vaux grille it had a slightly grippy finish so dust would stick more compared to the painted panels. Do you just hose it off now and again?

To paint it myself cost a little under $200, thats all the paint and tint to darken the blue. Black would be cheaper. I used just under 3 gallons. The dirt and dust has been spraying off pretty easily, I also have a rag specifically for dipped cars that helps get the extra dirt off. So far its been really durable. I've given it a few good shots which I thought might have damaged it, but it hasn't even scuffed.

Looks pretty cool. I think "entire" is appropriate, the pics are what I was expecting. It gives me new motivation to "dip" the chrome on my Cruze.

So you did something to the blue? Hard to see from darker pictures.

Yea the weather has been crappy so I haven't been able to get a sunny pic. I added 3 1/2 black tints to the navy plasti-dip to get a much darker result.

An it would have cost less because I could have gotten away with 3 gallons, but I ordered 4 to be safe. I ended up using 2 and 3/4 gallons with 6 coats over a black base.

That is unique. What kind of paint gun did you use? I have heard people getting frustrated trying to push the paint through HVLP guns.

I used the earlex 3500 that comes in dipyourcar.com's pro car kit and had no issues with it at all.

What's bad is that I can paint the whole car with single stage for less than that. It won't be BC/CC, but it will look every bit as good. BC/CC runs around $350 for supplies.

The coatings like these are great when you don't have the equipment to paint, but if you have to buy guns and have a big air compressor anyway, then why not just shoot it with paint?

It would have only cost $120 to do the entire car if I ordered less paint. The air compressor is not large and I did not want a rattle can result. I can also use the gun for a variety of other projects. I also am not a professional painter so I do not want to attempt that process. Plasti-dip is very forgiving and easy to work with, requires almost no prep, and does not harm the original paint in any way. Instead it serves as a protective layer for the original paint. I also like change, so removing it whenever I feel is great.

I feel the same way about paint, especially single stage paints. They're quite forgiving, and around $100 for a gallon of sprayable paint, which will do a whole car.

It does take some practice to make paint look good, but you can learn it pretty quickly. I learned to paint a car when I was handed the gun when helping a buddy paint a car, and it came out fine. It's a great skill, because there's always someone willing to pay for the work to be done.
