Default Suggestions on shocks?

My Astra XR needs new shocks. The bumps are getting pretty rigid and hard on the car. I was wondering what you guys would recommend. I don't want anything crazy expensive, and don't need anything completely performance. A good middle range shock would be great, a little above stock, and little below 'performance'.

I haven't looked yet, so WHERE to get them would be great too! Thanks fella's

May of posted in wrong section, my bad!

How many miles do you have on the car? I would hope that the springs do not require replacement as well.

You can get ACDelco shocks and struts (OEM) from rockauto.com and it will set you back about $380 before shipping.

As vanilla sky mentioned, Tirerack sells the front struts and rear shocks for about $550 before shipping.

I have no idea how much it would cost to get OEM from the dealer.

the konis are on sale at tirerack right now

I have been unable to find front struts for the car as of yet

gabriel makes rear shocks, as does KYB, but no one has fronts that I can find

I've been looking at shock too and we don't have the best options to me. The Konis are twin tube, and I wouldn't want to spend that much for a older twin tube design. Might be worth the extra money for the Bilstein B12 kit, but then you have to get it with the springs. Would be nice if there were decent quality drop in monotubes for the car. They might be out there just from brands I don't know to look at since this is a bigger world car than US car.

By the time the car needs springs, the unibody should have crumbled.

OP, try shox.com, and the European sites, maybe even eBay in Europe or the UK.

I've had Konis and Bilsteins on a number of different cars. I would go with the Konis if the car is a street car. But a Koni for my Porsche and a Bilstein for my BMW may be different than they are for an Opel.

After some digging I did find something promising.

Pretty sure those should work.

Thanks guys.

My car has 71,000 miles on it, and I'm not too worried about my springs. I've just noticed a rigidness to it when hitting bumps. I'm still getting a good even wear on my tires, so it's not something the car desperately needs.

I don't need a true performance shock, just something a notch above OEM would be nice, but I may not want to pay the extra. lol

Im sure they handle nice, but is the ride quality as compliant as OEM. Thats usually the advantage of a well valved monotube.

The Konis are perhaps the in between, but I doubt they are close to the Bilsteins, not a ton of options.

I'm running on 65k miles and the shocks are definitely worn from the performance perspective, but still far from being dead to where most people take shocks. So now I am beginning my debate. New Mazda 3 looks pretty nice, but buying anything new after the absolute bargain this thing was is a very tough sell.

The thing with the Konis, though, is that they test out what works best on each vehicle. If Koni Yellows are available for any car I own, that's what goes on them when I replace the originals.

What springs are good to pair with the Bilstein? Are H&R and Eibach springs good choices?
