Default GM stubby antenna swap instead of shark fin

Antenna 1.jpg

Hi All GTRik here, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.! A 6 hour drive (one way) during Covid Season scored me a 2008 XR, with under 76,000 kms (or 47,250 miles) on it. Well maintained, and but a few small blemishes. Rare find. Reading up on it, the most popular antenna replacement is the Universal Shark Fin Cover. Nice, but it's been done...

Instead, I want to keep in the GM stable, and decided to go with a "stubby" OEM (GM part#25775153). My question is... which wire to what? I've attached the GM antenna here... and the lower two pics are the three wires on the left, and what is presumed to be the Saturn antenna on the right. So... I don't mind splicing the wires...but any idea who goes to what?

Appreciate your input and help!

We share the same antenna base as the Saturn Outlook SUV. It has a shorter antenna so it won't clip garage doors. You could use this and return the other. At least three of us here chose this instead of the fin. No degradation in signal strength.

Amazon will say this doesn't fit your vehicle, but it has fit mine for almost 5 years.

OK, it took the evening...mostly to work inside the only partially removed headliner, but I got it done. So much better looking, and looks factory. Simple mod, and much happier with it, compared to the original "fishing rod"...

hahaha I like the fishing rod. But the rubber gasket does deteriorate so a few have suffered water ingress. So you don't have to worry about that. Looks good.

I ended up getting one from this website. I had to email them and ask if I could have one made. I think the final cost after shipping ended up being around $80. There is a washer, that screws directly into the base of the factory antenna. I haven’t had issues with it falling off. I try and find a thread showing off the antenna.

Edit: here’s the thread. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=130121

Edit 2: The shark fin antenna stick on with 2 sided tape over the top of the factory base without having to do anything with wires.
