Sunroof Leak - not the drain lines this time

After reading about clogged drain lines causing sunroof leaks - decided to remove headliner. Found both rear drain lines disconnected from Sunroof - thought - cool - easy fix. Blew them out - and reconnected. Unfortunately - still have a leak (although Im certain reconnecting them has probably helped somewhat).

In any case- there was a piece that seems to be disconnected. Found it "under" the roof -but above the sunroof (in the slot that's at the rear of the sunroof when first "opened"). Looks like a "channel" of some sort - even has velcro on the bottom (where I'm assuming the headliner connected). It has missing rivets (one at each end). Looked like one was ground down - so assuming previous owner had something to do with this.

Seems like this piece missing is whats causing the problem - but cant tell exactly where it goes. Seems like it should be the rear "dam" for the water. Some of the water runs into where the drain tube connects - but some goes past that. Anyone had experience with this -or knows how it goes and a way to fix it?

OK - found some other guides - look like this piece is the "rain trough" - supposed to catch the stuff that leaks - and dump into the drain lines. I still cant see where to connect it - without removing the sunroof.

I'm testing with a garden hose now - maybe thats more than its designed to handle???

I recently noticed this piece banging around. It is held in with 2 flimsy rivets that break quite easily. I got me some gorilla CA glue and refastened it back down. Thanks for posting. So it is a water channel? It should be located at the rear opening and the broken rivet remnants should show you where they should be attached. from the top. Just open the sunroof vent enough to see.

Thanks Tommie - I actually lowered the entire sunroof (just kept the motor bolts in) enough so I could see it all. Cut out broken rivets - and rerivitted. Also had some glue in there. Bummer is - I still have a leak when I test with a hose. This "trough" - tapers down at both ends - I wonder if the water leaks our around those tapers. Is yours like that too? I was thinking if should only by lower on the "inside" of the end.

the corner drain plastic edges and the drain channel need some rtv to help them seal....also some adhesive on the tube to endcorner cap won't hurt eather

Perhaps you did fix it. Are you blasting it or just letting it get wet? You could just be overwhelming the drains...I also know the gen 2 leaks on the lower cowl in heavy rain because the drain rubber door does not move enough out of the way and was updated on the gen 3.

Thanks Satelite and Tommie. Maybe it is as good as it gets for Gen 2. I'm thinking maybe I can add some aluminum from a can - to help prevent if from overflowing. I might have overwhelmed it -but seems like a hard rain could have done that too. The headliner was green in the corners from so much rain -but I'm really hoping that was from the drain tubes being totally disconnected.
Another idea I has was adjusting the screws holding the glass in place. They have a little vertical play in them - I think I just set the glass as low as possible - maybe if I raise that - it will not let water in as fast and the drains can then handle it.

Another idea I had - was I noticed some of the metal around the glass had rusted - so maybe I should paint that with the rust stuff - and that might also help slow it down???
