Default Outlook to Traverse? GM, you're a riot!

Just for fun, we stopped in at the local Chev. dealer to see if we should deal our Outlook while the dealing was good(Deals to be had!)! A demo Traverse(loaded) was in the showroom and the salesman said they were "anxious to sell". Great! Let's talk! The Traverse was $46,000(10,000 km), which was what we paid for the Outlook in May of 2007. Now comes the kicker - how much would we get for our Outlook(37000km)? "Just let me make a call", he said. .... "We can get you $15000! " I could hardly stay upright from laughing as we left the showroom. What an insult to a fine car. Guess the Outlook and I are together 'til the end!

The Outlook and the other Lambda's look better than the Traverse.

My sentiments, exactly! That's why I am blown away by the decision to axe Saturn and keep the other "uglies" that GM has produced!

Just a weird side note to the Traverse. We looked at one, and I could not get that scene from Jim Carrey's movie Pet Detective out of my head. It is where he is inside a mechancial rhino and it fails, then he has to go out the a**. The pointed end of the Traverse reminds me of him pushing out of the rhino!!! Weird, I know, but won't buy it cause of that.

They always give you way less than its worth. Best to drive it until its worth less than $10k and sell it to a private party. At the beginning of the year I was offered $1000 for my wifes Rodeo and $1200-$2200 estimate for another dealer. We had 3-4 people interested paying cash $3500.

Yup - 2 1/2 years left on the warranty. I'll keep it 'til then, but where will I get a comparable vehicle? The other Lamdas don't come close in looks! I DO love the ride and comfort, though! GM - are you listening?! - I may have to change companies after 40 years with you!

I already have nearly 50K miles on my '07, so there's no doubt I'm keeping this thing 'til it won't run (which might be sooner than we think). GM is really going to have to blow me away for me to consider one of their cars again. It pisses me off to say this but, I don't think I can afford not to buy a foreign car.

Type Saturn Outlook in Google, and you'll see Chevrolet ads telling you to look at the Traverse instead.

Odd situation, to have a corporation advertising against one of its own products.

Very odd indeed. And the most bizarre thing for me is how fast it happened. It seemed like the day after the announcement, GM had anti-Saturn ads running via Google on the front page of SaturnFans.com. When was the last time GM did anything that fast??? So sad...

Their "customer service" reps have been prepped to make "politically correct" statements that , hopefully(NOT!!) will placate their one-time customers. All it did for me was solidify the feeling that GM could care less about what we say or do. Good riddance.

" . . . the feeling that GM could care less about what we say or do"

Like the consumer (we'll say anything to sell you our product) . . GM 'upper crust' only said to the gov't on both sides of the 49th what they knew the gov' wanted to hear. As soon as they acquired all that taxpayers money they're back to their usual . . . .

In the last month or two there has been at least a couple news items where they've buggered up the frontline staff pensions/collective agreements and i'm sure the expense acc't amounts for the 'upper crust' are back up there, if ever . . . .

IMHO,

Not long ago, I was at a pawn shop looking for a steadi-cam when I overheard the conversation between the shop owner and a customer looking to sell his Rolex. The shop owner first looked at the Rolex. Then, he gave it back to the customer saying he doesn't want it. He pulls out a tray of Rolex watches and tells the customer he has too many and the Rolex is not worth any money. The conversation went back and forth for a solid 20 minutes with the shop owner saying everything but directly calling the Rolex a piece of crap. Eventually, the customer was offered $100 for the Rolex. I had heard enough and I can't find the steadi-cam so I walked out.

2 weeks later, I went back to the shop and out of curiosity, I checked the tray of Rolex watches. There were none priced at lower than $1500.

Trade-in pricing is a mind game. $15K is just a starting point. You have to negotiate upwards from there.

I've asked other people this;
You would base a car purchase on looks? You would test drive a car, love it's comfort, power, handling, feature set and whatever else you look for in a car but you would discount it based on some weird outer angle or the shape of the windows.
Ridiculous, get off the whine train.

It's the closest matching new product. They don't make any money on Outlooks any more.

Davidsky,
Is your reply button stuck or something????
For your information the closest thing in shape and looks to the Saturn Outkook is the GMC Acadia, not the Chevy Traverse.

Don't know about anyone else, but looks is the first thing to get me interested in a car. If I don't like the looks i wouldn't even check the comfort, power, handling etc.

On price yes, the Traverse is closest to Outlook. On styling however, it would have to be the GMC Acadia which still earns money for GM, LLC.
