Question Re: "S" Series RKE Remote and Option Programing

looked under my trunk carpet on spare tire board and saw I have the AUO option which means it should have Remote Keyless entry, correct?

I read everything here and it seems there should be some sort of module present? where exactly would I find that? which panel do I pull? Just want to make sure the module is present before I go spending money on a couple of key fobs.

98 SL2 with power windows, locks, etc.

thanks in advance for any responses, sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I feel lazy starting a new one with so much great info in this one.... still learning the etiquette and procedures of the forum so you can be straight with me.

I ordered a FOB anyway and it works like a dream.
A couple months ago I think I found the module while replacing rear speakers.
it was on the side of the back seat. cant recall which side,
but it was a box with wires that my sl2 with no power locks does not have on it. hope this helps anyone who reads through these forums as much as I do.

The module is on the passenger side.

Hello everyone!

I just programmed a remote I got on eBay today on a 1998 Saturn SW2 (wagon).

1996-1999 Saturn S-Series 4-button Remote ABO1502T

On the back of the remote reads:

GM 16207901-5
Canada 218101368
Model/FCC ID: ABO1502T

This is exactly what I did in this order.

Got in car. Did not even shut the door or lock or unlock the doors.

Put key in ignition to on (the position that gives power to the radio not the one that lights the panel behind steering wheel).

Used paperclip and jumped 4 and 8. (Top row of diagnostic connector found under the hood release on the drivers side).

000X000X
00000000 - X Marks the spot :-)

Held down lock and unlock on remote until horn beeped once.

Released buttons

Removed jumper from 4 and 8.

Held down lock and unlock on remote until horn started beeping, doors cycled and interior light was flashing.

Released buttons.

Turned off ignition, removed keys and tested remote.

Worked first time.

Hope that helps someone if having trouble.

Regards,

JamTrip

For anyone who is visual like me, this is the best video I could find showing exactly how to do everything talked about. After watching a YouTube video, it became crystal clear to me and that fixed an issue I was having.

It's a YouTube video that ends with this string:

Programming Saturn RKE Module Not for Gen 3 (00-02)

Also, unlike what I've read in other posts in this thread, to program both of my rke fobs, I programmed both at the same time. I kept having issues doing one after the other but doing both at the exact same time worked!

I am trying to program two additional remotes.
I have gone through all of these steps and cannot get my 1999 Saturn SL1 to go into programming mode. After jumping pins 4 and 8, the horn chirps once, but with the key in the LOCK position, I cannot get the remotes to program. I'm certain it's not in programming mode because the remote I do have continues to work and it does not get cleared out.
I have tried pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously on the new remotes immediately after jumping the pins but that didn't work. I waited 30 seconds, tried again, and it still didn't work.
I tried turning ignition on and back to lock 4 times. Nothing happens, no lock/unlock, no horn chirp, nothing.
I remove the jumper and the old remote continues to work.

My locks do not cycle when I jumper the pins or when I program.. However the light on the interior flashes. Power locks work on both sides of car. checked fuses. Just cannot get fob to accept programming, any ideas?

Just did this. When I bought my wagon, all I got was a key, not even an original, just a copy. Asked previous owners if they ever had a fob, and they said it didn't come with one when they bought it 15 years ago or so, so not sure if it ever had one to begin with or not. Ordered a set of new fobs on Amazon, buttons are a little stiff. I've heard OEM is preferable, but these worked fine, poorer quality for sure.

Wanted to add that my process didn't go quite as the writeup said. Jumped 4 to 8, car honked once, tried to do both fobs at the exact same time but that didn't work. Had to hit lock and unlock on one fob until the car horn chirped once, then still holding those down, I quickly pushed and held down lock and unlock on the other fob. Both chirps happened within a couple seconds of me hitting the buttons, but I still held them all down for about 45 seconds after that. Not really sure how long they took to program, if it only took 15 seconds or what, as there was no indication when it was finished that I noticed. So I just kinda stopped holding the buttons down at some point, checked them, and they worked!

I did turn the key from off to on once before starting the process (not sure if that mattered but someone else mentioned it confirming my mode choice before programming) and also left the key in the ignition in the off/ lock position for the duration of the programming. At no point did any of the locks lock and unlock, and the horn only chirped three times total, when I jumped 4 to 8 (one horn chirp for first mode setting I assume) then one more chirp for when each of the fobs engaged properly, and that was it.

My biggest hiccup I realized was not hitting the lock and unlock buttons at the EXACT same time on each fob. The horn chirp after let's you know you've done it correctly. Door opened/closed didn't seem to make a difference.

Lock, unlock, hatch, panic, and alarm, all working
