Default Intake Questions

1. Theoretically speaking what could possibly happen if say you drove with nothing covering your throttle body for say maybe an hour?

2. How big should intake piping typically be, and what is too much.

3. can one be installed incorrectly, and how would you know if it is.

The reason I ask is because i modified this civic intake and I wanna know if the could help or hurt my 99sl1 sohc.

Actually anyone help with this subject would be nice.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I've had my car running before with the intake completely removed and the throttle body bare, just to see what happened.

The engine jumped up to about 4,000 RPMs and STAYED THERE.

In other words, don't do it. Your car doesn't like it at all.

But it sounded cool as hell.

It shouldnt do that, it should idle normally.

Therefore, your car is screwy.

Somewhere on here this dubject has been touched on a few times. Companies like AEM go and test almost all the variables on the dyno. They make the diameter of the pipe bigger/smaller, they make the length longer/shorter, and they try it with different bend angles. You would think that a nice large diameter pipe would do the trick but it actually doesn't give you as much or any horsepower gains.

Or you can be creative and just forgo a pipe altogether and slap that big 'ol cone filter right on the throttle body.
