Question Safe way to remove rust from exhaust header?

Is there a safe way to get that nasty looking rust off my exhaust header?

Also, the plastic fluid reservoirs are a little stained. Any ideas on those?

I've actually steel wooled them and used some Simple Green to remove the excess crud. You could probably use brake cleaner to get a little more aggressive but watch out for the paint. Not too long after the header heats up, it will start turning that light red color again. So, you may want to jet coat it.

I like the red tinge because it keeps the smog goofballs from raising an eyebrow.

It's tough not to get rust on the exhaust header. The whole unit is a cast-iron block......so unless you invest into aftermarket stainless steel header, that's the way it is on the stock unit.
