2002 VUE 3.0L
Default ECM Swap.... code P0481

I have a 2002 vue AWD 3.0 164k. Recently did an ECM swap from a 2003 Vue 3.0. Relearn on ECM went smoothly. Idled a bit rough for 10 mins or so and then smoothed out. Check engine came on and now throwing P0481 code (cooling fan 2 control malfunction).
I have an idea what this is, but I dont know any easy way around it.
My 2002 is an early production and only came with a one speed fan. There is no resistor in the wheel well and only has 1 fan relay in fuse box.
I believe the 2003 ECM I swaped may be looking for a 2 speed fan.
Does any body have any ideas how to fix this...

Thanks

Seems like you either have to get an ECM that's a better match or have yours reprogrammed (probably not a cheap option).
Did this ECM at least make all those other codes you were getting go away?

Good Morning Chazberry. Good to hear from you. I was hoping you had a trick up your sleeve for this fan issue.
Yes, changing the ECM did make most of my codes go away. Still chasing a lean condition on 1& 2. High idle is getting better. Seems to come and go as it pleases. Still a little slow on rev down. But the old one was throwing so many random codes. The two trany codes, evap codes and some others went away. Truck is running much better.
Im thinking and hoping that this new ECM may have a learniing curve and it will get better and more consistent with miles.
I now have the problem with the over tightened oil filter cap. Housing wants to turn and I've tried everything. Any ideas ? If I keep turning will it come out? What kind of bolt holds it in ?

Thanks

I checked my sleeves again - sorry.

Not ANOTHER one of these! See this thread . . .

If you can't grab the housing with a strap wrench and break the cap free, you might have to smash a hole in the cap and get a new one (Dorman 917-002 - ~$20 on Amazon).

Thanks Chaz !
I will order a cap just in case I have to bust it open. Dont understand why poeple have to crank it down so much.
I do all my filters by hand. Never any leaks.

Yeah - this is just dumb! It has an O-ring seal. Doesn't seal any better hand-tight or torqued to 100 ft-lbs. I make mine barely snug with a 3/8" ratchet.
