Body Control Module
First post, just sharing my experience, but expect I got lucky.
Bought an 02 L200 from an older couple who said it had low miles but odometer showed 680K (?). Bought a BCM from the local jy for $20 with exactly matching numbers. Took out the 3 screws on the glove box hinge and removed the glove box cover. Took out the rest of the screws on the front of the glove box and one small plug on the bottom to get to the bcm on top of the glove box. Drove to the dealership and they completed the removal, install and reprogram for $100. I put it back together.
Guess I'll never know for sure how many miles the car has on it. Dealer told me it was not retrievable. Odometer shows 120k, mileage of the car the used bcm came from. At least now I can check my mpg and will know when to change oil. I drive the wheels off my vehicles so don't care that much about that odometer is not accurate.
They were going to charge me $200 to do the complete removal and reinstall with the used part and $600 for a new bcm. I was out the door for $108 + 20. They told me at the beginning that they didn't have a much luck reprogramming used bcm's. Rolled the dice and it worked for me.
