Default 1999 sl2 with 1997 sl2 engine need help

I picked up a 1999 sc2 with a low mileage engine out of a 1997. Problem the 97 engine does not have the right manifold for the air pump and it's throwing a code. The car runs great though. Can't have any codes in my state or it can't be registered, won't pass emissions. Can't see a way to rig the air pump to the manifold in it and the bolt pattern is different then the 99 manifold. Was wondering if I can just get a 97 dohc auto pcm or am I stuck finding a way to drill out the manifold, is the harness the same? Are there non air pump 99 pcmís that will interchange? Any other problems changing the 99 pcm to a 97? Any other reasonable options?

There are non AIR '99 PCM's....but RARE. IIRC you can use a '98 PCM and that should work just fine.

You might try contacting www.saturnautosalvage.com. They seem to be able to get some things done with PCMs others can't. They might be willing to swap you.

Got the 1998 pcm today and hooked it up. Direct fit, no codes, started right up, so far so good. Pretty much confirms 1997 engine into a 1999 equals a 1998 pcm if you donít want to throw any codes, if anyone didn't know that. Now the 99 sc2 is just a few minor parts away from completion, got out of this one pretty cheap

They don't do a visible inspection as part of the test? Here in California a 99 would fail for not having the pump..

No worries of passing or failing in tennessee as there is no inspection here.

Yes indeed California is strict. They even pressure test the fuel tank on OBD I cars now. I was curious about testing in Connecticut and found this:

If your vehicle has any of these safety problems it will not be tested:

Excessive brake fluid leaks or any leaking fluids
Tires, wheels, or other unsafe conditions that make a vehicle unsafe to operate on the dynamometer including studded tires.
Emissions equipment tampering

The thing is no codes no problem, they will never check the air pump. They would not know if there was one in there to begin with. 98 no air pump, 99 air pump, and then the 99 non air pump exceptions, they would have no way of knowing. We now have independently run emissions testing centers not state facilities. They do not do dynamometer testing unless the car is older then 95. They check under the car, hook up the computer and that is it, no codes and you are on your way. Now if it were a missing cat then yeah but not an air pump.
