Thumbs Up Another positive review

Came across this in today's Globe and Mail. It's a very strong, positive take on the ION. The tester had much praise for the new offering from Saturn: larger size, Ecotec motor, Delta platform, etc. One thing he wasn't happy with was the lack of ABS brakes as standard equipment.

Nonetheless he was impressed!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Wow that was a good review. Nice to see positive comments from the media about Saturn for a change. The ION sedan will do great.

Good review (or was it good food and drink for the reviewers? :-)

He describes the Ecotec as "vastly more powerful, but infinitely more refined, quiet, smooth, economical and clean burning than the rough 1.9-litre unit it replaces". Well, maybe NOT more economical! (And we will still have to wait and see on "vastly more powerful", too. Considering the additional weight, I would guess NOT).

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

From someone who has driven an ION (me), it IS more powerful even with the additional weight. It had more power than our old 94 SL2 manual (and the ION I drove was a manual). Go drive one and see for yourself.

I just realized I had a typo. The ION I drove was an automatic, not a manual.

I think it is also the fact that the EcoTec doesn't have to work with a massive fury to make the car get up and go, like the 1.9s do. Combined with the 5 speed auto transmission, I, an EcoTec owner, found it to be suprisingly quick, and I set the traction control off several tiemsi n the ION-1 I was driving, and I wasn't trying.
