Dizzy HI all New used saturn owner here

Hi all,
i have recently bought a 1996 saturn (ZE18) 2d sedan im not sure what series this is but compared to pics of others its an s series. anywho its a 5 speed 1.9 Ive been haveing a few probs hope someone can help. First off is the temp gauge doesent work most of the time although sometimes it jumps to half and back down sometimes its just on 1/4 whats wrong? second my motor likes to rev itself up when in idle or in nuetral between shifting gears always comes back down though. and third is that both my windows (electric) when trying to roll them up the front drops and window gets stuck, If i hold the front up then hit the switch i can get it rolled up with some effort. I took the door apart today and i cannot see anything wrong with track can someone help me with this or tell me how to find replacement track and or guides thanks abunch, Bill

heyy welcome! sounds like you have a SC model based on the 2 doors. As with every new member greetings, change your ECTS! there are instructions in the How-to section as a sticky. you cant miss it.

as to the window issue, search the forum and the how-to page for help with the window. sounds like something happened to the track bc it doesnt rise straight.

oh and always post your vitals, aka year, milage, auto/man..etc.

check your oil once a week!

this site is AWESOME! it sounds normal for saturn oil burning. there are different remedies you can try to lower that including a MMO piston soak (again in the how-to library) which many have found helpful. i have not done it tho so i cant speak from experience. auto? manual?

Is there a tab on the back of the glass? Had an old k-car once that this tab held the rear of the window in. Had to firmly pull it inwards, then set the tab and release.

You have classic ECTS failure, to repeat a previous poster. Change it and you will be blessed with a perfect car, for the price of 3 gallons of gas!

I had an s-10 pickup with a window problem like yours.
There was a plastic tab that ran in the track that attached to the window.
When the window would slip out of the tab, the window would go crooked.

Go to www.car-part.com. That's a web site that will search salvage yards in your area for parts. Search for a window motor. It should come with the regulator.

As several recent threads have turned up, check your plug wires. Several people have fixed what they thought was a noisy lifter with new wires. Unless you check when it's good and dark out, you might have a touch time finding that little spark leak that's making the ticking sound. And if your wires are the factory originals, your car has been on borrowed time for a lot of miles!
