Basically I have a 97 SL2, and I'm trying to replace a simple cigarette adapter. I pulled the old one out and cut the housing off. None of the universal ones will work so it might be wiring. I'm just curious to see if anyone may have an idea as to what I can try to get it to work.

?!? Are you talking about the orange ring? This is the lighter socket removal how-to:

No "cutting" involved.

Have you checked the fuse and/or verified the socket is indeed the problem?

I bought my car used, and the previous owner didn't take care of it. So i'm going through hoops to fix this car. I know where the fuses are, but i couldn't locate the fuse for the cigarette adapter. The fuse diagram in the care isn't that helpful if you don't know what the abbreviation stand for. Getting back on to subject I did cut it, but I kept all the parts. I can fix my mistake if i need to. Thanks for the video though.

Pull all the fuse's and check for blown ones. If your not sure about one then test it's connectivity with a DMM, or just replace it. The relay's generally don't fail without accompanying visual aid's (melted plastic) so you shouldn't have to worry about those.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

If you pull the panel cover on the passenger side of the console there is a diagram on the back side. You would be looking for fuse #13 that's labelled as "lighter". A yellow 20A mini-fuse in the lower right corner right above the fuel pump relay.

if I were you, I'd just go ahead and run a new constant hot power wire going to the power adaptor. Do it, since re-using the current wiring can lead to burning of the F-5.

You should be able to use the existing ground wire, though.
