Not really - no one on this forum will recommend those "stop leak" solutions. They eventually cause more problems (ruining your stuff) and you're not actually fixing the problem.

The radiator is not a hard job, but there's a fair amount of things to take out. If you're handy with tools, it will only take an afternoon. The radiator itself is like $60.

Here's a richpin video on its removal. Take a look and see what you think.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nUyGjeLpVs

If you do go with a replacement, check your hoses, thermostat and water pump. If you're thinking long term - it might be worth doing them all at the same time since you're doing a coolant flush.

Thanks for the advice. Where do you suggest getting a radiator?

I'm getting better at servicing my car. Changed the oil and filter a few days ago, and changed the wheels around (what they usually call "rotating the tires" - phrase that does not make much sense to me, even though I know what people mean by that).

I asked where to get a radiator. Is it worth going to a parts yard? If you get one from another Saturn, I would think there is no way to know for sure it would last - it could go bad in a few days, after you put money and work into it.

I'd go to Rock Auto.

That is the right page. SC coupe > 1.9L L4 DOHC is an SC2. The radiators in all S Series Saturns are the same, which is awesome.

If you look under > 1.9L L4 SOHC you will find the same parts. Or SL, or SW.

Definitely don't bother with a used one. They are cheap and plentiful either online or at your local auto parts store. I'd probably get this one at Rockauto:

I was referencing the included quote and its photo showing the area that typically cracks on the S Series radiator. It's a photo looking square on rather than from the top down like yours.

I thought your photo was from the bottom looking up as I don't recall the trans cooler line being so high up on the radiator. My radiator photo is from a manual transmission however.

So the radiator is probably the next step higher in terms of difficulty. If you have a friend who's handy on cars, it may be worth "pizza and beer" just to have them look over your shoulder. Again, not hard, but just make sure you have tools and equipment handy (appropriate sockets, drain pans for coolant, etc). Nothing's worse than getting halfway through a job and then getting stuck because you don't have the right tool.

I'd echo the rockauto part recommendation above. Shipping costs can be a pain, but I remember the days before "free shipping", and then compare against the "total cost" of buying from my local auto parts store. If you can wait, then rockauto is usually the cheapest option. Radiators are $120 to $160 at my local stores.

I watched the YouTube video that someone linked. I think I can do this.

I don't have any friend who is a mechanic to offer pizza and beer to, however....

Post your location. Might be someone here who is willing to watch you work while eating your pizza and drinking your beer

(make sure they pack tools in their trunk in case you are missing something but from what I remember, it only required a few basic tools)

I ordered and got the radiator some time ago. I plant to install it today. On the box, it says to replace that thermostat at the same time. Is that all that important?

I checked AutoZone and O'Reilly Auto Parts online. AutoZone gives one model available at their store - Duralast Thermostat and Housing Assembly 15178. O'Reilly gives 2 - Murray Plus Thermostat Housing Assembly Part # 3179 Line: MCS and ACDelco Thermostat Part # 12T49D Line: ACD . Is there a better or best in this list?

OK, I did a quick search on Duralast and Murray. A lot of people say that AutoZone - in this case Duralast - are not good.

NAPA has 3

Thermostat and Water Outlet Assembly - OE Temp
Part # :

I called a local NAPA store and found that only the second one I lists,

Thermostat and Water Outlet Assembly - OE Temp
Part # :
THM 268
Product Line :
NAPA Thermostats

Is still available. She said the other two were old part numbers.

I plan to buy this one.

If your thermostat is good, it is not critical. But, since you have to drain the coolant and will have more space with the radiator out, it is convenient.
