I'd personally buy a new CD player instead. Better sound and more options for the money.

Don't rule out the aftermarket! I bought an MP3/CD player for $169 last year, which is not too much more than what they get for a replacement stock unit! Also, there are some nice dashkits for Saturns out there. Aftermarket sound quality is so much better too. I'm still working with the stock speakers and it still sounds way better than it did with the stock system.

I guess "To each his own!" I like the Stock System! I don't need a 500 Billion Watt System blasting out! I just listen to the News, Music and the CD's I bring along!

Same here!

My car actually was a stripped down model when I bought her, not even cassette! Fortunately, a fine fellow who is on this forum (goes by the name of TedL) was able to hook me up with a Saturn AM/FM CD HU. Nothing flashy, but it sounds rather nice and gives my cabin a nice clean look.

I also found some 120W speakers (just some cheap Rampages) at a K-mart that was closing down for $4.00. I set those up as my rear speakers. So all told I spent I think 44.00 and can listen to my CDs and get decent sound. Again, nothing spectacular but they get the job done.

I don't really mind buying aftermarket, but on the saturn the radio is considerably bigger than the aftermarket cd players and I just don't want it to look goofy.

In my opinion, not only do the After Market Radio/CD Players look "GoofY", they also attract alot of attention from Thieves! With all the flashy screens and colors, it's almost inevitable that Thieves will break into your Car! But the Stock Radio/CD Players don't!

Get a dash adapter kit for your model of car from Crutchfield. That'll make an aftermarket stereo fit flush with the rest of your dash and look professionally installed.

I'll second this. Back in '99, I paid $15 for a brand new tape head to put in my '82 Pontiac GP. Manual tuning and no fast-forward or rewind buttons for the tape player. Someone actually broke in to my car and stole it.

How smart is someone who chooses to be a thief, anyway?

That being said, they are less likely to go after a stock head unit. Additionally, only a stock head unit is going to match a set of stock speakers. I can't blame you for choosing to go with an original.

Don't limit yourself to a Saturn headunit. Just about every other GM head unit from the same era will fit your Saturn perfectly. Also, check out car-part.com. I've used that site to locate a lot of parts for my cars over the years.
