1999 SL2
Default Some updates and repairs on my 1999 Homecoming..PICS

Hey guys, it has been a long cold winter here in Southern Ontario, but I have finally got around to replacing a lot of the wear and tear items on my 1999 Homecoming Edition.

Of course with 1999 being a black sheep year, the Downpipe with Catalytic did not fit. The flange to the exhaust manifold had to be cut, aligned and re-welded. Interesting fact, the factory downpipe also appeared to be "modified" from the factory to fit, you can actually see where it was cut and re-welded. I had ordered the BOSAL kit from Rockauto (It was 100% factory as it was never replaced)

And of course, the passenger side control arm bolt would NOT come out easy...Had to use the Air hammer on it...eventually it broke free. Drivers side came out in 2 seconds!

Items replaced this year so far:

Front Sway bar Bushings
Downpipe and Catalytic Converter (what a ***** job)
Rear wheel bearings
New Spring Kit for rear brakes
New rear wheel cylinders
New Shoes and Drums
Rear Trailing Arms
Front Control Arms
Reman Front Calipers
Rotors
Pads

A few pics to follow:

Cheers

Thanks man, it has had a pretty easy life, currently has about 177,000 Kms on it. I would give the underbody an 8 out of 10....a few areas are not the best, but in general for a 21 year old car, its not bad. Interior is Mint, except for the headliner which I will re-do some time this year..

Good to hear the underbody is in decent shape. Rust is the worst. My Saturns would be excellent except for the rust.

It's my mechanics lift, but also a good friend, have been going to him since 1997 when I had my Beretta Z26. Hes the brother of my neighbour and a great guy. His specialty is H1 Hummers, when you go to his compound, it looks like a military base....lol

Was this the one in Ottawa a few years ago?

Watch out for the interior fuse panel if you have dealt with yet.

BTW I think your rear trailing arm washer is on backwards.

Take of that special SL2, hard finding these nowadays. I just picked up a 96 SC2 that I plan on restoring somewhat as well.

Thanks, I will check the washer! What should I be looking out for with the interior fuse panel????
No that was not me in Ottawa a few years ago. This car was bought at Saturn, Saab Isuzu of Mississauga years ago. Never made it out to Ottawa..

If you are talking about the F5 issue, I am not too worried about it. I never use the cigarette lighter, and have the stock stereo system, all internal lights are LED, dash lights, behind the A/C and heater control, dome light, shift indicator etc. I reduced the load as much as possible.
