Default Shift flare

I have a 2003 6cyl Vue. I experience a shift flare between 2nd and 3rd gear on light acceloration. I no longer have the resources i used to have to research this concern. Has anyone had a successful resoltion to this concern?

Might be a silly question, but what exactly is a shift flare? Is it similar to when a transmission slips?

Thanks

Could it be that the transmission is slipping and needs replacement? How miles are on you Vue?

Roll Eyes Re: Shift flare

This happened to me 2 - 3 times on my 2003 V6.

I remember reading some posts here (surging???)

I traded it in for a 2004 (honda V6).

good luck.

There were lots of threads on this issue about two years ago.
It was a common problem at the time.

It happened to my 03 V6 Vue. The problem started manifesting once or twice a week, then it become very annoying and dangerous manifesting five or more times a day. It can be nasty when you're in traffic the transmission shifts, your engine starts to rev up but you still lose power because the transmission dosn't engage the third gear.

If your car is still in the warranty I suggest you to perform a search of this forum for similar threads and print them out; then go with the printouts to your dealer service center and complain about the problem.
In order for the them to start the repair, they have to "duplicate" the problem.
Because the "flaring" on my VUE wasn't occuring everytime, I asked the service manager to take my car and drive it all day, even go home and come back next day with it.
It took him 24 hours until he called me back and said he did happened a twice and he will fix the car.
From what I understood, he replaced the entire transmission.

I hope your car is still under warranty, otherwise it's gonna be painful.

I experienced flares between shifts and slipping with my '03 V6 in cold weather after a minor repair to the trans oil cooling lines. Turned out the tech did not get enough oil back in the trans. I just got back from there, and they must have put in 4 pints from the look of it. The point is, you need to check the trans oil before assuming the worst. Now, with the '03 and earlier V6, there is no trans oil check procedure and the oil is supposed to be Saturn 'T-IV'. Since I've just been all over and around the oil level issue, here's the scoop: The oil is standard Dexron III, and I got this from two different techs there on different visits. Since the dipstick handle is all the way down at the transmission, it's too dangerous to check with the engine running. They ran through the gears on the warmed-up car, then turned it off to check. It's hard to get to and requires some 'snaking' of your arm. To fill, you'll need one of those funnels with the extra-long hose. Have a pan under the car to catch spills, and add the oil in 8 oz. increments, checking level after each. Do not overfill.
If fluid level/condition is not your problem, it may be one of the shift solenoids or the valve body that needs replacing. They can pull codes which will give them an idea of the problem.
