Default Assistance needed for L61 replacement options.

It looks like I will be joining the club of Vue owners having to replace a failed 2.2 L61 Ecotec in my 2004 5-speed Vue.

When I look online for replacement 2.2 options, there are some configurations about the exhaust manifold that look confusing. These are:
- drilled and tapped for AIR check valve, no EGR port in head.
- drilled and tapped for AIR check valve, EGR port in head.
- Not drilled and tapped for AIR check valve, EGR port in head.
- Not drilled and tapped for AIR check valve, no EGR port in head.

Can anyone provide some insight on which of these would apply to a Vue that has been in the eastern half of the country since manufacture and sale?

From what I can tell, the "49 state" Vue's could go with either #1 or #4 from my list above. It seems that the extra bit of California emissions would require EGR.

Any insight or advice that could be provided is appreciated.

If you have a 49 state car, you don't have the air valve, check to see if you have an EGR valve on the side of the cylinder head. Odds are you go with option 4. That's the most common.

Thank you for that guidance.

I should really follow your example though and go with an LSJ manifold while everything is out. Or, dare I say, headers

Definitely go LSJ exhaust manifold. If you’re interested I have a 2.4 intake you can add for more power.
