1999 SW2
Default Odd "sliding" noise in/under dash when first accelerating 1999 SW2

My 1999 SW2 makes an unusual noise ONLY when first accelerating after starting it. The sound is like a pocket tire gauge sliding front to back in the center console, which it isn't. It only occurs once after starting. That is to say, it DOES NOT occur when accelerating from a stop after the first time. Really perplexing. Seems like it's coming from within or under the dash. No difference if AC is on or off. Any thoughts or insights?

Pull the ABS fuse out, you won't have that noise anymore. You won't have ABS either and the light will be on, but you wont have the noise of it activating.
...
The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

^^^^^ Or just read the section in the owner's manual about ABS, and you'll realize that it's perfectly normal. It might be advisable to post again if you DON'T hear it sometime in the future.

Thanks for your reply. So now I've got a decision to make: ABS or noise? Hmmm, really need to think about this one. Thanks again!

Thank you also. I guess I never noticed this in my 1997 SW2 (211,000 and counting) because it doesn't have ABS.
