Default difference between door locks ,2008 Saturn aura

Hi

I need to replace the right rear door lock actuator for my 2008 Saturn Aura. I just found there is a difference between the front door lock and the rear one. Next to the rear door lock on the inside rear door panel, there is a hole and a yellow plastic part is inside. You can also see a lock sign and an arrow beside the hole. However, there is no such a thing on the front door panel. What is this?

Thanks.

If you need the part number for the actuator, here's the latest (they've been superseded multiple times):

Front left: 22785608
Front right: 22785607
Rear left: 22785610
Rear right: 22785609

I replaced the actuators in all four doors this year, and I can verify that all four are physically different.

I ordered two of these parts at GMPartsShop.com using the numbers listed above:
RF - 22785607
LR - 22785610
The parts the sent me were numbers:
22865519 & 22865520
The seller is actually Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix.
Does anyone know if these are the latest version of these parts? Could these be Chevrolet numbers?
The price was right at $58.98 each.
Thanks to all. This is one of the more civil car forums I've visited. There really needs to be a DIY sticky, though.

I wonder if the part numbers have been changed agian?

The original part numbers were:

Front Left: 25829641
Front Right: 25829640
Rear Left: 15947862
Rear Right: 15947861

And the part numbers for the redesigned ones I bought a couple years ago were:

Front Left: 20772312
Front Right: 20772311
Rear Left: 20760509
Rear Right: 20760508

The Aura, Malibu and G6 all shared the same numbers.

I know I am reviving this old post... but I am needing to replace the left rear door lock assembly/actuator I guess. Soooo, my question is how is the rear door panel removed and where can this part be obtained relatively inexpensively? Dealer quoted a price of 88.25 for the part and about 124.00 labor..... which I am pretty confident I can do, with some guidance of panel removal.

Thanks in advance for assist.....

I found an interesting post on the Malibu forums about using a generic or universal door lock actuator.... and it appears someone did it with an Aura as well http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/foru...ead.php?t=9688

How many here have used the universal or generic ones?

Thanks for the photos, the link I posted from the Malibu board are quite similar.

But, Ah, $88.25 isn't a good price, it's full MSRP. Especially for a part that has known and documented failure issues. Talk about Government Motors ensuring repeat income opportunities.... LOL. After a search, I did find a few OEM parts on line between 50-60 bucks, plus shipping.

The link I posted above was a modification using an aftermarket generic door actuator available on Ebay for under 5 bucks shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110448800668...84.m1497.l2649 And that part could fail and be replaced 10 times over it's lifespan (which I have not heard about) and still be more cost effective than replacing with the OEM part I think.

How many have had the OEM replacement parts fail within a short time?

I'm approaching a year, and haven't had any repeat failures.

Low Saturn,

I own a Saturn 2008 Aura XE. It looks like I have a driver side front and back actuator problem and a passenger front side problem too.

The pics you provided (Much Appreciated) correspond to a Saturn 2008 Aura XE? Also, where did you get that tool kit and how much?

As for the part numbers, is this correct?

Front Left: 20772312
Front Right: 20772311
Rear Left: 20760509
Rear Right: 20760508

Is there an alternate source for these?

Did this work for you buying from E-bay? How do I know what to order for the respective areas of the Saturn doors?

Find a local car audio shop. They likely can bypass the actuators. Two of my doors were done this way.

I went to an audio shop that had their own actuators. They don't bother taking out the factory ones. They put in their own and cut the wiring on the old one, hence, bypassing the factory ones with something aftermarket. They are much stronger and less likely to break. I paid $50 per door. Trust me. I would never have known if I had not talked about the issue in front of them. Let me know if you find out anything. No one wants to spend $500 on a part no more reliable than the one that failed.

@Low Saturn

Would you please look into updating your account with your photo hosting provider?

It appears you included many helpful photos in your posts of this thread but they are not visible.

Thanks in advance if you're able to remedy this. Thanks either way.
