Default '96 Sl2 Manual Trans Rebuild questions

Hi all,
Just pulled the engine out of my 96 Sl2. I was having troubles shifting into first and second. Replaced all the clutch components, but I feel like I should re-build the transmission while I have the engine out. (I'm not sure if the clutch, or the transmission was at fault.) Is there a good manual on how to do it? My Haynes, just says don't even try.

Thanks.

differentracing.com under tech articles shows you how to take it apart. Use the search button to find where to get a rebuild kit. I forget where.

Most times hard shifting into 1st is due to worn pressure plate fingers, not internal issues with the tranny. These trannys are beasts

Weld the diff pin! It took me about an hour to disassemble the trans and about an hour to reassemble. I don't have it in the car yet, but I am pumped to get this thing going!

Yeah, the pressure plate fingers were definitely worn, but it didn't feel like the clutch was dragging. Could that still be the problem?

I took off the 5th/reverse cover, and it looks pretty good. I'll probably pull the main cover off just to check. Only the cost of a few gaskets. (Assuming that I don't mess anything up.)

If you are going to take off the main case, you are 2 bolts away from popping the differential out! After you remove the main case remove the brass flow tube, then remove the 2 bolts holding the reverse bracket deal, remove the bracket. Next remove the reverse idler gear and shaft. Next Grab the input shaft, output shaft, and selector fork and remove them from the case as an assembly. Then grab ahold of the differential bearing and pull up. Have the pin welded in and put it back together!

These guys have an excellent write up with pictures and everything.

The diff pin is the weakest link on these trannies, so have it TIG welded if you are opening it that far. Careful not to heat it to much when welding as there are plastic washers behind the gears that will melt.

What size is the nut on the input and output shafts. It's slightly larger than a 29mm.

Thanks
