2008 AURA XE
Default Advanced two-way remote start

I talked to my local dealer parts guy today and he said that the advanced two-way remote start is scheduled to be available this month for the Aura. I think this is currently available for the Outlook and Malibu. He also said that considering that August is almost over, it may come out at a later time. I just hope it's available by winter...

It would be a nice add-on, especially when I'm not in range of my current remote starter.

At $4/gallon, remote starters really add new meaning to the phrase "must have money to burn". In the winter here in the midwest, I often walk out to a sea of remote started cars running for 15-20 minutes (at a cost of $1 - 1.50 worth of gas). What a waste...

Forgive my ignorance; exactly what is "Advanced two-way remote start" and why is it different from the remote start I already have on my Aura XR? Thanks.

Yeah, I thought about that too but I had a remote start in my previous vehicle and I miss that "comfort" of getting into a nice warm car on cold winter mornings. I probably burn more gas sitting idle in rush hour traffic than I ever would with this...

Here's an article about it. Looks like GM inked a deal with Audiovox. Among other things, it has a better range (up to 1200 feet) and it displays the status of your car on an LCD screen. Pretty cool...

The Aura won't run that long. It's set at I believe 5 minutes.

It's an even bigger waste to have to sit in the car in the driveway while the windshield defroster is still de-icing the inside & outside glass just so that I can see to drive ... if it's gonna run 5 minutes to de-ice anyway, it can do so with me indoors, finishing my AM coffee

Advanced "Two-way" remote start?
Mine only starts the engine, one-way.
A Two-way remote start lets the car start you?

What is the second way?

I use mine to run the A/C to cool the car off before I go out, what's all this chatter about defrosting the inside of a windshield?

Hey PhateonDriver, a clever guy you are...

I think it's called a two way because the car can send info back to the LCD remote, like DIC info and the like.

Yeah, I would use it in the Summer sometimes too.

Precisely. It gives information like tire pressures, fuel level, and other useless things you would never need a remote to tell you.

HOWEVER, it's super cool, and people would be impressed

The Aura will run ten minutes, for two start cycles. After that, the car has to be started with a key.

You can actually do the remote start command twice in a row with the aura, right after another, and it will run for 20 minutes straight. Which is nice, so you don't have to get up after 10 minutes and start it again. I don't usually let it run for more than 5 minutes in the summer, but 15 minutes is my usual winter norm, especially during really cold weather.

I had two-way remote alarm starting on my SC 9 years ago. It had a serious range. I could get off the plane at gate B9 and communicate with my car in the garage maybe 3-4 football fields away. The remote had a LCD display that showed the status of the car.

Then I buy my VUE and it's standard remote can maybe reach out 250 feet on a good day...

It's aggravating how they all post press releases like it's new technology, it's been around a long time. Probably the car manufacturer's have just discovered there's a better way.
