Advance Auto Dex 3 Will switch back to Mobil 1 or a better Dex/Mercon fluid though; my cold shifting is not what it was.

Mobil 1 ATF, for no reason other than that a lot of people suggested it. Supposedly the tranny shifts smoother, but I've never actually been able to do a comparison.

I use Mobil 1 ATF, it makes cold shifts much easier.

Mobil 1, which for some reason has gotten much more expensive. Will be looking for an alternative.

Why does it matter if the cost increases? You have already flushed and filled with m1. How often do you replace it?

When should the fluid be changed, and should it be flushed? I was told last winter *not* to flush a transmission as it disturbs the filings that might end up where you don't them. Better to just drain your transmission and re-fill it.

Well, this thread is about manual trannies, and the above statement refers to automatics, but it's still true.

Automatic trannies should be drained and refilled (with a new filter) every 30,000 miles, according to the owner's manual. Many here do it considerably more often, like every 6-10k. I'd consider 30k a bare minimum.

The manual tranny is supposed to be drained and refilled once, at 6,000 miles. Technically, from then on, it never needs it; remember, it's just a slosh/bath oil; no pressure, no hydraulics. But for good "hygiene", the general consensus here is that replacing it every 100,000 miles is a good idea.
