Default Mechanic recommendation for '03 Vue in Orange County CA

I have an oil leak of unknown origin, small but slowly getting worse. Not in a position to DIY.

I have been taking my Vue to a GM dealership for regular maintenance but they've tried my last nerve.

Anyone have a recommendation in Orange County?

You need some references from friends or some such source...Here in kansaas the vue dealership went over to a gm/buick dealer..But their a ways away. I just take it into a shop thats been around awhile...They do my ford pickup too..

Motor is made by opel of Germany. Any foreign shop could change the valve cover gaskets. Though I bet only 2% of mechanics have ever worked on one. Remove intake plenum, change gaskets. Use good silicone gaskets. Not cheap $20 “rubber” Chinese ones. I saw a vue at junkyard with radiator/front end gone. The motor was COVERED in oil. Ugh.

Argh! Notifications have been spotty on this thread.

Sorry for ignoring you for a week, and thanks for the info! I'm not at the "covered in oil" point but I do feel that's the direction I'm heading. :-(

Most GM and repair shops know their way around most vehicles but there are the exceptions that don't have a clue knowing the gas cap from coolant cap...... The trick is knowing which ones to stay away from. If your patience is worn out from your local GM dealer, perhaps it's time to try another dealer. Good repair shops are known by word of mouth and speaking to the shop or mechanic may give a clue about trusting repairs to a new place. Maybe a shop (non dealer) will put your Vue on a lift for an initial inspection and give it a quick look then invite you to see what they see. Every repair shop has insurance regulations prohibiting customers into service bays especially under a vehicle lifted above the ground so the exceptions depends on each shop to bend the rules of they want customers to see what they see. Good shops will invite the vehicle owner to look at their vehicle on a lift if they feel comfortable with safety in mind.

Plastic valve covers may have something to do with oil leaks? I know the front exhaust manifold is a perfect flat surface where the oil drips onto and causes smoke burning issues. I worry more about a 17yr old timing belt. Records of service?

Original owner Timing belt is 5 years old.

I was going to try another dealership at the end of month, but then the world jumped off a cliff. It's getting less than 10 miles a week right now so I'm just sitting tight.

Bought a v6 3.0 vue that had been mistimed. I pulled heads to repair bent valves and noticed 2 of the 3 timing belt rollers were new. So, I put in a new 3rd one. After I got done I looked in box of parts seller gave me and it had new cam seals. Agh, that I did not install. Don’t recall if valve covers had new gaskets. I sold it pretty quick.

Where in Orange County? If you want a dealer, there is Cerritos Auto Square. The Chevy and Kia dealers used to have former Saturn mechanics. I never used them, but they were supposed to be ok.

If you want an independent shop, there is a place near me that has kept my Saturn going for 13 years. Yes, they are open. Good luck.
