Default Tire replacement opinions wanted

Hi all,

2009 Vue

We are about to swap out some tires.
Los Angeles, so primarily hot dry driving. No snow issues. No race car mentality. Just reasonable life, control and mileage.

235/65/16

Falken SN211

Bridgestone EP422 / Ecopia

Firestone Destination LE

Michelin Defender

Thanks so much.

-Scott

Frankly I would never buy anything from Bridgestone/Firestone. Having seen too many tread separations and failures of different types with them. I learned Bridgestone buries their mistakes.
Of your choices Michelin would be the standout as I have no idea who Falken is

^^^the above response is about 14 years old.

Now, Falken is a great tire manufacturer. Ive had several sets of Falkens- mine were all sporty versions but they were top notch. Bridgestone/Firestone hasn't had any issues in quite awhile. They had to regroup and improve after the Explorer tire issue in the late 90s but are now producing tires that are performing quite well. Take a look at tirerack for the Destination AT tire- it leads its category. The LE was recently redesigned and is doing quite well.

I'd personally go with the Destinations. Made in the USA to boot.

Hankook H727 - Discount Tire should be having a rebate/sale going on.

hard to beat these for their value (performance/price)

I don't care how old you feel my response is. I have had Bridgestone tires AFTER the Explorer debacle and Firestone too and have had severe issues. That is a mfgr product that will not go on a vehicle that carries anyone I care about. Cooper is another product I will not buy again either.

Sorry, but it's gotta be you. I'm running Bridgestones and Coopers - on two different vehicles, and I am not easy on these two trucks - and they're absolutely no trouble at all...

Both of my current Vues have Coopers. When I put new tires on my old 03 Vue (before I got rid of it) I put Coopers on it also. I have had great rides and traction on all 3 vehicles. Now, I don't drive in snow too often as we don't get much in southern AZ, but I had no problems when I was up in Flagstaff and got caught in a storm.

Did you notice a improvement in your gas mileage with these tires?

Used to run the Bridgestone Duellers that came on it stock. Ran 2 sets on them and got about 60K per set. Made the switch to BF Goodrich Long Trails and regret it. They are bald at less than 50K and were never that good in the wet.

Next set I will likely go back to the Duellers unless I can find a deal on something else.

Thousands of people have ran millions of miles on Bridgestone tires that think they are decent tires. I think I will side with the masses.

Not disputing you had issues with the tires but most of the passenger tire reviews on ANY tire I have read at Tire rack that are negative almost always described their driving style as spirited.

The Vue is a grocery getter, not a slalom racer / drifter.

The Bridgestone Dueller H/T D684? I'm pretty sure that's what came on mine.

You're right, thousands of people have run them and reviewed over 24 million miles worth of this tire and it ranks 52 out of 55 with the only barely green category being dry traction. And really, how bad does a tire have to stink to be bad in the dry?
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...y.jsp?type=HAS

I have the Long Trail T/A Tours on my Mariner (they just came on it, I didn't buy the vehicle because of the tires) and the tires are brand new (made the 5th week of 2013) so they are at full depth, but they've been fine in the rain so far. If you've been watching the national news, you'll know that Colorado has been greeting a little rain lately. The true test will come this winter.

Depending on which Long Trails you had, they rank either 17 out of 55 (same category as the Duellers) or 10 out of 17 (the kind I have).

I think the masses agree- the Duellers stink.

Edit: I just looked up the pictures of my tires in my VUE thread, mine had the 684 II tires, which improves their standing to 40 out of 55.

Agree. Bridgestone Dueler OEMs suck.. I went to, and am happy with BF Goodrich Long Trails.

I've had two sets of Bridgestones, a set of Kuhmos and a set of Goodyears. I'm not sure why Goodyears aren't on your list, I've had super mileage with them. They are not an exact match size-wise, but they are the best I've had. I can't complain too much about the Duellers or the Kumhos... Bottom line is I've put a ton of mileage on all three and think I may be getting better with the Goodyears... Just my opinion though. I'd go with either of the three again, but the Goodyears are my favorite at this point.
