Default Failing clutch?

99 SL2 108K 5-speed.

I'm pretty sure I'm feeling the clutch slip. I've never had a clutch fail before so I'll admit I'm not totally sure what to look for.

First, second, fourth, and fifth gears all seem to be slipping. Third gear slips but not quite as bad.

In addition to that, I pulled over at a gas station after a 50 mile drive home from work. I popped the hood to check the oil and I saw smoke/steam coming from between the battery and the head. I could also smell something. It was almost like burned rubber but A LOT worse.

Any comments?
