Question Thinking about getting a 2004-2007 VUE

My girlfriend's car was totaled last week, and she needs another vehicle. I have suggested a 2004-2007 VUE with the V6, FWD / AWD and the Automatic 5 speed. There are a few available in the area with 120000-150000 miles, and they are priced between $3,000 and $5,000.

One in particular that looks promising is a 2006 with the V6, FWD and 5 speed automatic. It has 139,000 miles, and is priced at $4,000, but I think they might take $3,500.

Does this sound like a good deal?

You want some assurance that the 100k maint has been done (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Plugs, etc). I think a lot of folks decide to sell when then see what that work will cost.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll make sure that the 100,000 maintenance was done.

2007 VUE 3.5L
Default Re: Thinking about getting a 2004-2007 VUE

Two years ago I picked up a 2007 3.5L V6 with 5 speed automatic and fwd for 7K with 53K on the odo. It had some minor issues which I was well aware of when I bought it... tires, battery, wheel speed sensor, sticky ignition, stab links, broken wire in the passenger seat heater element, in need of heavy detailing job... it was almost comical the way the owner tried to conceal or downplay the issues the vehicle had. I had thoroughly looked into these vehicles here on the forum when I started shopping for one so there were no surprises as far as I was concerned. I feel I got a fair deal although the kid I bought it from was trying to be a shadeball. I have been happy with the vehicle. Be mindful of whether or not the 100K timing belt service was performed on the vehicle if you are looking at high mileage vehicles-timing belt, timing belt hydraulic tensioner, water pump, plugs, drive belt, any relevant pulleys...
One more thing- like many gm vehicles these things like to eat hub assemblys.
Happy hunting!

Here's my two cents. Stay away from any 4 cylinder vues. The transmissions are a ticking time bomb. 04 -07 have the Honda motor and transmission.Weve had ours for three years"knock on wood " it's been a great vehicle.
Good luck in your search.

That is NOT true of all the years mentioned. The time bomb is the VTI and it was all but gone after 2004 models and replaced by a very reliable unit. Actually IMO it's the engine itself with the early gen EcoTec 4 cylinder. GM went through a fairly drastic redesign of the engine in 2008 which helped immensely
OP, your pricing sounds a little on the high side to me. I just a few weeks ago picked up a pretty decently loaded 2006 Toyota Highlander 4 cyl, AWD, clean and miles on the lower side for $4500. Arguably a much better SUV than a Vue. Plus the yota engine is a chain engine not a belt. Having owned a Vue have to say ride, handling, overall performance and such plus just the overall quality is light years ahead of the older Vue. Later Vue (2008 up) is a totally different vehicle. Actually an Opel rebadged. IMO overall a much better and nicer vehicle.
Just my $.02

You know that the engine/trans is HOnDA and they rec'd a 25000 fluid change interval for trans components...
