Default Whats your MPG?

I just wanted to starty a thread to document different cars MPG. I know there is a big variation of MPG that everyone gets depending on Sx1 or Sx2, manual or automatic, and mods. So i'm asking for you to state the year, model, transmission, mileage, and mods to get a better idea of what these cars can do.
95 SL1 w/88K
5 speed
HAI reading about 150*-160*
Tires up to 39psi
Engine cut-off switch on shifter
Best MPG - 42.51
Avg MPG - 39.48
I keep a gas log over at http://ecomodder.com/forum/em-fuel-l...vehicleid=3890 I definetly would reccomend keeping a log to keep an eye on your MPG. Plus it's fun to drive for MPG. I have a goal of 50MPG which i will break at some point i hope.

I drive 280mi round trip to work and back 5 days a week. I drive the exact same route and full up at the same gas station, even the same pump, every morning. I really haven't tried too much in the way of mods, reliability is my main concern. Durring the winter I avarge 34-37mpg, and durring warmer temps 50*+ I usally get 39-42mpg. Car is BONE stock as of right now. I use mobil clean 5000 5w-30, mobil 1 atf, Kumo power stars 758 for tires, and never exceed 3k rpm. I'm going to try to attach my mpg logs.....

wow nice logs. i wish i could get those numbers stock. after some inconsistency with my MPG i believe i may need to replace my ECTS. other than that ive cleaned the throttle body , EGR, seafoamed the intake and gas tank and replaced plugs. so im not sure what the variable could be.

In the city, I get at least 30 MPG. On the freeway, it's usually in the upper 30s to low 40s.

I hit 45 mpg for the first time on my last tank of gas. I get much better mpg when I'm not running the airconditioner, but I had to run it a few times which may have hurt me...I've documented 8 mpg lower when running the AC. I have no mods although my tires are not stock...tires are slightly taller than stock...I have to add 5.4% to the mileage before dividing by fuel used. I drive about 65% hwy. I'm somewhat of a hypermiler...I coast if no one is behind me to stop lights/signs/turns and I try to keep my speed at or below 60 mph, but I won't impede traffic. Sometimes I'll switch the engine off if I have a long ways to coast (if its safe) and sometimes I'll do it when I'm going to be stopped for more than 30 sec. Also, the warmer/humid months give me about 5mpg better than the colder months.

2002 SL2 manual w/ about 144k...I don't pay much attention to my tire psi's.

Also, my thermostat went bad last year (noticed my temp gauge showed lower than normal) and lowered my mpg by about 5...replaced it and my mpg (and temp gauge) went back up to normal. I usually avg about 40.

I wonder if I blocked some of the incoming air in the colder months if I would hurt anything and gain better mpg?

by blocking the air do you mean blocking air from coming into the engine compartment? If so many people that hypermile and modify their cars for better gas mileage will block the air on the front spoiler or bumper from coming through the radiator. Its called a grill block and it helps the engine to warm up faster as well as keep the intake temps up. Of course if i were to do this modification i would not block the grill completely and keep my eye on the temp gauge as much as possible at first, then if it seems to work well with no overheating maybe i would block a little bit more. It is supposed to help alot during the winter and in colder climates. Another thing after reading some information about what "lugging the engine" really means i have started to shift alot lower then i used to. I now shift between 1600-1900rpm and it seems to be helping out mileage quite a bit. I accelerate rather slowly so it takes a little while to get up to speed but i dont mind.

With me, my wife, my 2 kids and stuff in the back to get through a day trip we were able to get 40mpg with the SW2. Most of the time it's in the mid 30's with just my wife driving in stop and go traffic 65 miles a day for work. I dont think I have seen sub 30's numbers with that car. My car........ that's a WHOLE different beast

Last three tank full runs were 40, 37 and 40. Lotsa freeway time, but not all!

O2 sensor is new, ECTS is brass, plugs are new NGKs and thermostat is 195F Stant. Passed IL emissions today-hurrah.

I call it my Polish hybrid.
Japanese hybrid Prius burns combination of gasoline and electricity for 49mpg average mileage, but $24,000 cost.

Polish hybrid (Saturn) burns combination of gasoline and ENGINE OIL for 38mpg average mileage and $2,800 purchase price.

Conclusion: Polacks rule.

We've got pretty good highway road over here, but the "main" roads are atrocious. They redid my road a couple years back, but only up to the entrance to the college kid apartments. Just goes to show what they consider important around here.

Gas log for 99 SL2

Getting close to 40 mpg on daily route 64 miles roundtrip (85% highway, 15% city)

I'm nearing the end of my aero mods (coroplast hub caps, wooden belly pan, some grill block). Planning on installing rear wheel skirts, finishing / tweaking my belly pan, maybe some partial front wheel skirt. Other more drastic aero mods (wish list) include a nose job (smoothing front bumper / head lights area), smaller driver side mirror, and other little things.

Non-aero mod include max sidewall tire pressure, HAI, and driving without shoe.

I think a lot of that is determined by weather, drive cycle, and other such variables that make the MPG people get vary a lot to begin with. My drop is closer to 10%, but city traffic around here isn't all that terrible. I'd imagine that with more stop and go it would suffer worse, as the initial acceleration and idling would be affected the most by having more parasitic draw from the AC when you really need the power.

Back to the actual topic.

Bone stock '95 SL1

With AC on most of the time in the summer 30-31. No AC about 34-35. This is rarely even getting on the highway, with a longest highway trip during my work week of about 10 miles.

On a road trip I consistently crack 40+, and even with AC use and 70-75 mph averages have got 42+.

I drove non-stop my SW2 on a distance of 432.8 Km (258.8 miles) on highway cruising at 115-120 Km/h (71-74 mph) and got 6.13 l/100 Km (46 mpg US), figured with a thank fill on both ends. Need new spark plugs and wires for sure

Out of subject:
I did test drive this week on a brand new Ford Fusion SE 2.5l (4 cyl) with a 6 speed manual tranny and I must say I have been impressed! I almost signed but there was none 2010 available in my area, whatever the color, with these 3 simple options: a) 6-speed Man. b) moonroof c) Sync for the Bluetooth.

Anyway, I have to postpone new car purchase until next year to replace my *hum* signature blue car once my son being graduated...
