Question Borla, Magnaflow, and Dynomax

On a 99SL2...
Which of these do you recommend on 2" custom exhaust? Do you recommend buying a resonator/glasspack to replace the stock one? If so, what size/style?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I love my borla muffler. I got it from Jegs for about 110 bucks. It was 2" the smallest one I could find.

With your custom setup iit should sound even better. I like it because it is quiet until you get on it much like the dynomax. Unless you want it to sound ricey I would put a resonator on there as well.

Cool

For you I recommend the Dynomax Thrush Magnum Glasspack Thrush Magnum, 2 in. inlet/outlet, glasspack muffler, $17 at Summit Racing, part number WLK-24200 to use as the resonator.

I have the 2 1/4 inch inlet/outlet version of this resonator, Dynomax SuperTurbo muffler (with 2 1/4 inch inlet/outlet), 2 1/4 inch crush bent piping, and a stock looking tip. The sound and performance are perfect.

I'll let you all know, I looked here for advice on exhaust and everyone here told me that the Dynomax super turbo combined with the 2 and 1/4 piping from the header back sounded good! I found out different. It sounds more like rice than I could imagine. I ordered a Thrush Glasspack as a resonator and I'll let you all know how it sounds afer i get it installed after next tues.

The resonator will take care of the "ricey" sound and restore a nice deep grumble.

Good Grief! I hit the "paste" button twice!

This muffler when used as a resonator will lower the exhaust noise a fair amount. At low rpms it sort of hums and at high rpms it sort of makes a whooshing sound. The efficiency of the exhaust system is not really compromised compared to using a straight pipe in place of the resonator. One of my non-Saturn cars has straight pipes in place of the resonators and it is quite loud. I couldn't have that in a car that I use everyday or I'd get a headache and probably go completely deaf!

I think eRic uses this muffler as a resonator and then nothing for the muffler at the rear bumper, just a straight pipe and exhaust tip. He is an expert when it comes to lots of things about the S-Series, including exhaust choices and suspension choices. Maybe he'll see this thread and add some advice....

I'll see if I can somehow get sound recordings of my exhaust system. Probably lots of people would enjoy that!
