300,000 is probably the number of L-series cars sold throughout all of history. Your car is affected. As 300,000 over 5 model years would be about 60,000 vehicles a year. The last year they only sold about 5,000, and I don't think they ever sold more than 100,000. Probably never even broke 80,000 a year.

Somewhere I saw that they won't be doing anything until September- anyone know if that's true? I'd like to have them do it now, while my car's already in there for the timing chain crap. I'll let everyone know if they can go ahead and do it now.

I just got an email from the service manager- they are going to go ahead and do the tailights while it's in- I have to say that even though I'm pretty upset by this whole timing chain fiasco, the service guys have been pretty great over at Saturn of Bowie.

Make sure they put in *Improved* taillight assemblies and not just ones they happen to have on hand in stock. I understand that the supplier will not be able to deliver improved product until August and the dealers will not be installing new product until September.

you guys are correct - I talked with the dealership and they informed me that it will be taken care of in September.
Cool..
I wonder how much this will cost GM?

Well, they are going to fix mine this morning or else. Last night the wife got stopped by a driver who said all her taillights were out so when she got home I checked them. Get this, when the lights are turned and I step on the brakes peddle the left and right brake lights go out completely! The top bar lights up but thats it. The weird thing is when the lights are off and I press the brake they work fine. Getting ready to take it up there now. I'll let everyone know what happens.

I was told that the replacment taillight assemblies that I purchased about 6 moths ago were the improved type.....I guess I'll have to check my invoice...wouldn't be the first time Saturn Dealership lied to me.

The dealer in San Antonio said they did not have any details about this recall, except it will be September before they had the parts. It will be curious to see if they replace entire tail light assemblies, or rig up some type of adapter that goes between the bulb and the tail light assembly.

About time. I've noticed this problem and have told my dealership twice. It's not been fixed.

I was buying someparts and talking to the service manager at the dealer. He advised me that if I had the taillight problem or any bulb not working they would replace any part needed to make it right. Mine goes out every couple of months and I have to fiddle with it.

The first time my brakelight went out (last year) and the sales manager at Saturn of West Palm Beach told me the whole assembly had to be replaced, I just about fainted. They charge around $200 for the repair! I paid it! Now the brake light on the other side is out. Mine does the same thing that one other person mentioned, about going out only when the headlights are on. Three months ago I found a dealership 25 miles south of the WPB dealer that only wants half that.

Speaking of which, if any of y'all happen to have been taking your car to Saturn of West Palm, I can tell you that you will save a lot of money by shopping around at nearby Saturn dealerships. I compared prices on lots of repairs like timing belt replacement, oil cooler replacement, transmission replacement, and in every single case, Saturn of West Palm was at least TWICE AS MUCH AS ANY of the six dealerships I called, including Miami. Saturn of Deerfield is the most reasonable, ask for Jack.

Finding this site a couple of nights ago made me a happy man! I am so thankful to find out about the recall. I was really worried that I was going to have to have one of the brakelight assemblies replaced every few months.

My last car was a '91 Saturn SC. Original year for Saturn. It was the best car I've ever owned. I got more than 400,000 miles out of it, and when I sold it out of my front yard for $600, it was still running strong, and it looked great too! I used to rave to everyone I knew about the great service I got from the Saturn dealership on E. Independece Blvd. in Charlotte, NC. But I'm finding some of the dealerships here in South Florida to be just like any other car dealership.

John
