Because existing sources of vehicle reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
Thanks to the help of Saturnfans and its members, for which I am very grateful, the Outlook has been one of the best represented models. Consequently, TrueDelta was able to provide quick results for the Lambdas. But more participants would still be helpful. The larger the sample size, the more accurate the results and the more detail I can provide. Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter. To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free. For the details, and to sign up to help out: Vehicle reliability research

We have updated results for the Outlook and the other Lambdas based on owner experiences through the end of June. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2009: 34 2008: 76 2007: 80 The 2009 is better than average so far, while the others are about average. The 2008 was also better than average a year ago, so it remains to be seen whether or not the 2009s will go down the same path. A big thanks to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide. Saturn Outlook reliability comparisons

Hello Outlook crew,
I'm reading your notes, comments, etc. and hope that I have not made a grave mistake. I just won a bid for a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR - 167,000 miles on it. The Good: The interior is in very good to excellent condition with exception of a 1-1/2 control button on the A/C interface. The Bad: Driver side tie-rod end broken, Left fender needs to be replaced. The Bad doesn't bother me because I've been working on vehicles most of my life and those issues are small. What bothers me is what I'm reading about the transmission performance and other engine problems. Would the group mind giving me opinion of what I've done and might be in for? |

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the Outlook to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.
Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2010 Outlook: 69, high 2009 Outlook: 80, high 2008 Outlook: 77, moderate 2007 Outlook: 56, moderate We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop: 2010 Outlook: 48, 3 2009 Outlook: 48, 6 2008 Outlook: 46, 3 2007 Outlook: 52, 7 We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be. To see how competitors compare, and to sign up to help improve this information: Saturn Outlook reliability ratings and comparisons I've attached the new graph. Common problems that appear at a certain age might be behind some of the dramatic bumps--a close look at the reported repairs might provide some clues.
