2004 ION-1 Sedan
Default Tunning 2.2 ?

Hi guys.

I have a 2004 ion sedan with a cai , 2.4 exhaust manifold and redline exhaust. I would like to add a 2.4 intake manifold and bigger injectors if needed.

From what I have read 04-06 2.2 is not supported unless I used a stand alone which I'm not interested in. I have noticed that the cavalier which has the same engine but different computer is supported by hp tuners. Is it possible to use the cavalier computer on the ion , maybe with some connector modification ? Would I even need a tune if I did the intake or would the computer compensate ? Or should I just forget about the swap?

Thanks

I believe 2007 has the 2.4 computer if you happen to have that year. If not junkyards are full of donors.

The LE5 intake manifold will need a tune on the L61, the PCM can’t compensate enough for the added airmass and you’ll run lean at high RPMs... you could wire in a piggyback and use that to tune with but most piggyback controllers only can manipulate fuel, so not as good as a full tune...

You could port a stock L61 intake manifold and kinda split the difference between the stock and the LE5 manifold and it doesn’t need a tune (mine doesn’t throw any CEL or anything) but you won’t gain as much upper RPM power as with the LE5 manifold...

I’m guessing you’d have to rewrite the car to accept the LE5 PCM and then it wouldn’t work right on the 06-back L61 due to sensor differences... the Cavalier PCM wasn’t meant to talk to the BCM in our IONs and supposedly wont run our electric power steering...

Too many mods to list in sig...

“Stock” is nowhere in my vocabulary...

You can get 12578203 the g6 version le5 intake manifold 06-07. As far as I remember, you can run the intake manifold with an adapter plate or it won't seal right and you can run lean. If you get the throttle body you HAVE to tune, but I'm sure with the intake manifold itself you'd be alright
