Question Ac compressor Ground (?) Wire slightly melted

Hello everyone. This question is relating to our 2003 Saturn Vue 3.0 AWD. We have had no ac for awhile now and we figured out the connector going to the Ac compressor has been slightly cooked. I shoved a a piece of wire in the connector and sure enough we have ac again. Why did the connector melt (see video)? How do I check if there's an issue with the ground connection?

Unless the ac connector was tapped to supply power to an aftermarket device, the severely melted connectors may be just an unusual case of a loose connection. Several amps power the ac compressor magnetic clutch coil and runs continually with ac use (no power cycling of Saturn compressors). If you can, replace both connectors, splicing in a new or used set. It's not worth worrying or second guessing why this connector melted other than a loose connection. The best you can do when replacing the connectors is monitoring current draw. My guess is no more than 5-8 amps are used.
