2008 Saturn Vue Ignition key stuck. Permanent fix, ideas for

Hey all,

I spent a solid 8 hours today “fixing” my fiancé’s terrible “key stuck” problem that officially doesn’t exist. Thanks to a few posts on this forum and some YouTube’s I managed to get the automatic shifter housing removed and the shifter pulled out so I could “fix” the metal wire switch to activate when shifting. Due to the terrible engineering of this piece that was no way I could bend the metal clip, or alter anything to make it work when when normally installed.

So, I took it out and now I have to depress the button by hand to get my key out of the ignition. Anyone with any electrical know how suggest a way to make this easier? Could I cut the wires and wire to a toggle switch and then just flip it to remove the key? Can I just tape something down and keep it permanently pressed?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

The pictures show the switch and metal lever activator, the bump that needs to be pressed is circled in red.

I should have added, if that metal button you point out, was to be pushed in and kept pushed in, would that cause a problem? I ask as I think the button could be pushed in and held pushed in with some JB WELD covering the button, a layer of wax paper on the JB WELD to guard it while using a small clamp to hold the JB WELD in place over the button, until the JB WELD is cured. That or a heavy gauge flat wire that you could wrap around he switch to hold the button down.
