I miss mine, especially now in the North East. Has anyone installed one yet?

I installed it a couple of weeks ago and I am so happy to have it back. Works better than the original.

The original heated washer option was good at heating up the entire vehicle.

Exactly what did the dealer do to perform the disabling of the factory system? I just ordered the aftermarket unit and want to install it myself.

Will the dealer install the aftermarket unit?
Will GM refund the cost of a aftermarket unit?

The dealer should have cut the wires on the fluid heater side of the plugs leaving the vehicle harness intact. They should have also removed the 60amp fuse for the unit. Follow the directions that come with the replacement unit and it's an easy install.
No, GM will not refund the cost of the replacement unit because they paid customers $100 when they removed the original.

If the dealer didn't perform the recall yet, will GM reimburse the cost of the aftermarket unit? I was scheduled to have the recall but I had to cancel the appt. Now I found the replacement unit and will install it. How can I apply for reimbursement and how can I contact GM to take me off the list of vehicles which were not updated with the correction?

If it were me (and it was I'd have GM do the work because it's a factory recall for safety reasons. If your car ever catches fire you'll need to be able to prove to your insurance company that the recall item wasn't the cause of the fire, easier to do if you have paperwork saying they did the repair.

I believe the GM dealer would be required to perform the recall if the vehicle was ever brought in to the dealer. They will not reimburse you for the replacement unit because it is not a GM approved unit. It would be best to let them perform the recall, but ask them to give you the fuse when they take it out. This way you will have it when you install the replacement unit. You will receive a check for $100 within a few weeks which will more than pay for the replacement unit. As far as the dealer installing the replacement unit, you should just ask them if they would be interested in doing it.

Installed the AlphaTherm unit this past weekend. It works great and I've been using it regularly in this Cold Freeze here in the North East.

Took about 30 minutes. It was a bit difficult to get at the factory wire harness', so I took off the intake, then removed the whole mounting bracket, removed the harness and followed the rest of the AlphaTherm instructions. I even used the factory hose clamps for a nice and clean install.

If you had the recall done, order the 60 amp fuse from Alpha, no need to go and get one.

I'm about to take my truck in for the recall (finally!). Where is this 60 amp fuse - in the main fuse box, or somewhere in the wiring harness? (I seem to remember adding a fuse being the fix back during the first recall, which is why I ask - I'm hoping to remove the fuse in advance

The 60A fuse is in the fuse box under the hood. I believe it's listed on the label that's under the lid of the fuse box.
The inline fuse that was added in the first recall will not be needed. The replacement unit won't require it.

Happy Re: Anybody miss the Heated Washer Fluid Option?

I also installed the aftermarket unit from alphatherm. It works but not as well as the original. When it heats up there is a few drops of washer fluid coming out the nozzles before the pump kicks in. Anyway, I am happy not to loose this feature.

Took the outlook into dealer for an airbag issue. Letter from GM said corrosion in a connector can cause Airbag Message to display. Dealer did work, covered by special policy.
I also gave him the old heated washer which I replaced with the Alphatherm unit, he recorded the recall as being performed. No connectors cut, or fuses pulled. Awaiting for the $100 from GM.

It is also nice to see the MADE IN USA label on the Alphatherm unit.

Is the unit located on the drivers side firewall, near the brake fluid fill port? I just noticed four disconnected black hoses in that location on my 2008 XR FWD. After my initial "who messed up my car" shock, I realized it was probably from the recall on the heated washer system.

Tempting to install for only $70.

Nope ! Glad I just have base unit this is just another example of extraneous (sp?) bling on new model cars that tend to break

Opposite situation . . . . at least some won't have to worry about finding/unloading the spare tire, in a few yrs with their next new car LOL
