Default car stereo question

I just got my wire harness in from crutchfield and when I went to go make sure it fit correctly I noticed that it has 4 less wires then the one in the car. Any idea what those cables could be for? It has the 8 for the 4 speakers, it has the antenna, ground, illumination, and the 2 different power sources. The wires arent labeled in the car so I'm at a loss, only idea that I can think of is that it there was an option for a cd changer and this is were it would of hooked up... When I bought the car it didn't come with a stereo so I can't figure it out this way...

Any clues?

Thanks
Jeff

only hook up the ones your car has. the others are probably for power antenna, dimmer, or not used. radio makers usually use one generic harness for all of their products. there should be a diagram in the instructions.

Ok, all you REALLY need is the power, ground, ACC, and the speaker wires. Everything else you don't really need to power up your deck. Don't worry about the extra wires, especially when you have a wiring harness/adapter.

more specifically about not worrying...tape off or otherwise insulate any wires you won't be using. This will keep them from touching any metal chassis parts and shorting out.

It's a 96. I wasn't worried about them that much, I was just wondering what they could of been used for.

Well from start to finish, including the wire prep work it took me about 20 minutes (not including the drive time up to my work to prep the cables).

Thank you for the help

Jeff
