Default 2000 saturn sw2 tail light replacement difficulties

I'm having trouble even finding a replacement part. So story goes, plastic got small crack in the lens of the drivers side tail light assembly. I ignored it cause I didnt think water could get in ... wrong .. water always gets in. So the wiring harnes sockets rusted to the bulbs. Ok no big deal right? Dealer wanted $150 for both parts. Seemed way too much at the time but now I wish I'd just gotten it.

So far:

o got replacement harness for $40 from saturnparts.com which turned out to have one socket miswired (brake/running dual bulb is swapped) and now since I didnt replace whole assmbly (tried some glue etc to seal crack) its started to corrode again and I'm not sure if I can salvage it .. though the swapped brake light is annoying too.

o tried to finally buy the plastic assmbly , went with rockauto.com and turns out the part they list for 2000 saturn sw is not correct, got it today and do not see any way it would fit. Looks to me like its for the 2000 SC or something. waiting to hear back from rockauto if they have the correct part.

o tried the car-part.com route but no parts near me, one that was only had passenger side, also hard to say if they will be damaged. Rather than maybe get the right part used I figured I'd just spend a bit more and get new parts, but so far that has been rather a crap shoot.

So anyone either a) have a drivers side 2000 sw2 tail light (preferably with bulb harness) to sell, or b) know of a place that for sure has the right replacement parts but is less than $150 since otherwise I might as well just have the dealership order the dang thing.

Never figured this part of all parts would give me this much trouble.

Denis,

Have you checked out the local junk yards? You should be able to get the assemblies for ~$25? I see lots of SW's around here.

Add a (at least approximate) location to you profile as it can help.

Ann Arbor, MI area. I have checked a few places and no one seems to have the part. The assembly seems to have changed between 96-99 and 2000-2002.

well gotta say kudos to rockauto. they got back to me within 12 hours and researched the part and confirmed their catalog was wrong and they had the sedan light listed for the wagon as well. so good news, their customer service seems very responsive , bad news they confirmed they dont actually carry the part i need. so back to seeing if i can find a compatable part at a junk yard or break down and go to the dealer.

It's small enough for RockAuto to ship, so any salvage yard in the country should be able/willing to ship one; that's the beauty of car-part.com.

Most places should be able to ship a wiring harness.

Just as a thought:
Give Saturn Auto Salvage a try in Kansas.

1-888-899-0907

They have a website, ( www.saturnautosalvage.com ) but I was having issues with the site. I have called them before looking for panels. They were helpful and called me back when I was looking for panels. You may want to give them a try.

They specialize in Saturn S-Series
