Engine removal. From top or bottom?
I need to replace a SOHC in a 95 SL1. The shop manual outlines a proceedure of removing the cradle and dropping the engine/transmission out the bottom (looks very involved). Can this engine be removed and replaced from the top. If top removal is possible, is it a smart way to go?

Access to a four post lift is key. Disconnect everything between the engine and car, put jack stands under the subframe, unbolt the subframe, then lift the car up. If you have a cherry picker you can take the motor off the subframe and put the new one on w/o moving the subframe, then all you have to do is lower the car back on it and hook everything back up. My brother has done this to countless Saturns, lemme know if you need help with anything in particular, I can ask him for you.

Top. I've done it twice through the top (get trans from donor car, install in mine), and it wasn't too hard.

Top if you are capable, with the right tools and such; bottom, if you hesitate and think that you won't suceed with a top lift.
Cause you would be  if you don't get it out rite.
