Exhaust leak at flex-pipe:93 SL1

Its leaking exhaust near the front of the car. Can I hacksaw both sides of the mesh portion of this manifold down-pipe and replace this section with a generic flexible section with the same o.d.? They should put a road shield under these,the flex is really beat to hell.
