Default Edmunds spy shot of Aura

See below a link to a spy shot of the Aura that appears on the Edmunds website. These two pictures show the Aura in a little better light than the Car Connection spy shot.

Still looks like a Dodge Stratus to me, only larger. Too bad it's pure old school GM...not a hint of Saturn's original mission or character left.

Whoever has the grille fetish at GM can go away, imo. I guess it's probably Lutz, but in any case, the ugly grilles are not a styling improvement.

Is saying that it looks like a Dodge Stratus "dissing"? I think the Stratus is an okay looking car, actually.

As for stating that the elements of what made Saturn different and distinctive are now absent, well, that's just a fact. Heck, even people who work there will tell you that!

As for my opinion on the grilles, I don't need to see it in person to know that I hate big, gaudy grilles. That's just my personal opinion. I'm still very disappointed in what they did to the Audi lineup.

These are much better photos than the first ones. The Aura looks better in black, too. So far I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

The rear doors look huge compared to the LS.

Just when I resigned myself to drive my '01 SL2 for the next four years, they dangle this carrot in front of my nose.

I guess I'll have to put a Redline Sky AND an Aura in the stable in 2009.

Looks good, wish we could see the inside....hopefully it'll improve Saturn's image. I just wish I could decide on the Aura or the Sky. Decisions, decisions...
I think I'm gonna like the NEW Saturn even more.

The Aura is built on the long wheelbase Epsilon platform that's used for the G6 and Malibu Maxx, hence the long rear doors.

Looking at both sets of spy photos, one thing seems obvious. Based on the black Aura's larger tires, dual exhausts and chrome accents, I'd say that's the V6 version. The white one, with it's smaller tires, single exhaust and body color door handles is most likely the 4 cyl version.

My L300 is paid for in September, than I have another year after that on my warranty, pretty much when the Aura hits the showrooms. Perfect timing.

Lucky you. I've got 2 1/2 years left on my payments.

It could be the Red Line Version too!

Hmm... the only payments we have are on the 'Nox. And that will be paid off by the time I'm ready for my RedLine Aura

I'll admit, it will be tough losing 15+ miles per gallon. But holy crap will it be a fun time doing it.

How hard would it have been to at least put polymer door panels and front fenders on this thing?

I'm sure the car will do well, if it's built with decent quality and reliability. It looks like it'll have a nice feature list. But to me, it's not a Saturn without the dent resistant body panels. I hope that someday we'll see advances in materials that lead to a return to non-metal body panels. In the meantime, I guess there's always this.

Tough considering it's built along side two (at least) other vehicles with stamped steel bodies. Having to wait for polymer panels would screw up the whole assembly line process.

The thing that gets me is they're doing this to save money, and yet this will probably be the most expensive Saturn ever built! If my $17,000 SL2 can have dent resistant panels, I don't buy the argument that they can't afford it on a $30,000 semi-luxury sedan!

A dollar here and a dollar there add up when you're building 200,000 - 400,000 of these things a year. GM needs to save every dime it can.

Yes, in GM's efforts to save money by building the Aura alongside GM stablemates, it would have been very hard to put polymer on the Aura. For such a high-volume car, putting a polymer panelled Aura right between two steel bodied cars would be manufacturing hell. This extends beyond automotive manufacturing and assembly, but in all facets of mass production.

I think I'm just going to stop now.
