~500,000 Ions sold over five model years = a flop? Riiiiiight. A lone blog naming the Ion to its "Top 10 worst car" list adds no credibility to this opinion.

well, when it comes to names, if it's one and done, there's something wrong..

Seriously there were two generations of vue and three of the S-series... everything else was one and done. other than that I kinda liked the Ions personally.

True they own the name but license it to another company.

At present, the RCA trademark is owned by Technicolor SA (known as Thomson SA until January 2010) through RCA Trademark Management S.A. Though it generally no longer uses the brand directly (either it or General Electric sold off virtually all the businesses that used it), Technicolor SA licenses the RCA name to other companies to use on products along seven different product lines:

RCA Telephones - Formerly manufactured by Thomson SA, sold in 2009 to Telefield North America [1] [2]
RCA Audio/Video - Manufactured by Audiovox Produces RCA DVD players, video cassette recorders, direct broadcast satellite decoders, camcorders, and audio equipment. (link on Audiovox website)
RCA Accessories - Manufactured by Audiovox, Produces Audio and video connectors, remote controls and television antennas.
RCA Televisions - Manufactured by ON Corporation

Yes It was a flop. 5 years is a short time. Avg 100,000 units a year is a low sales number. The Astra replaced it .. another sales flop. Saturn was a flop and one can blame GM management. No profits and the proof is in the pudding .. It dosen't exist anymore

500,000 Ions sold over 5 years is chump change compared to the amount of S-Series that were sold in 5 years (~ roughly a few million).

Highly doubtful. The automotive landscape has become much more intense and only promises to be more so when China and India get here. I don't think that Fiatsler can support all its brands and bring over Alfa, Fiat or both. If that happens perhaps by the end of the decade, one of the Chrysler brands may end up being absorbed or join Saturn, Pontiac, et. al. in that great boneyard in the sky.

Just got a flyer with the Saturn logo that says "The spirit of Saturn is still Alive". It was for Chevy touting their new return policy and no haggle promo.

And yet, Chevy seriously botched their restyled Malibu launch just to get a jump on Ford, Honda and Nissan. Apparently, there's cash on the hoods of the '13 Eco, which is not the way you want to promote your brand's sales leader. I think Chevy should have waited for the 2.5 and turbo before launching the new Malibu, that way buyers would have more options at the ready, but what do I know?

I read some articles to wait for the 2.5 as the new setup has a mild hybrid and the cost is high.

The GM dealer has 2 2012 Captiva's on sale low mileage. So they have no haggle pricing, return policy and now are selling what are basically VUE's

It didn't help that the ION was built on the same architecture as the Chevy Cobalt of the time and Chevy was dealing on those while Saturn was no haggle pricing the ION's.The cars were too similar under the skin and better deals could be had on the Cobalt.

So, GM dumped Saturn and gave the best part of Saturn's philosophy to Chevy--their corporate arch rival. That's what the board of directors wanted all along---do the Saturn experiment with Chevy and skip Roger Smith's idea. It just confirms what I thought all along. In that environment, I'm suprized Saturn lasted as long as it did! The king is dead-----long live the king!

Sounds a lot like my hometown Chevrolet dealer, which has many used Saturns in its inventory.

Again, the current Chevy no-haggle and return schemes are just temporary sales techniques, not a new policy for Chevy. Do people ever read the fine print?

ya i got this also. they are trying to entice saturn owners to buy a chevy seeing they now have the same sales policy as saturn did & they think if ya bought a saturn with this policy you might might buy a chevy also. the sales brochure has the saturn logo in the corner like they are still selling saturns, or like it's from saturn, weird...

Let's not forget that in most cities, since Saturn dealerships closed- there is still at least One "Authorized Saturn Service Center" which is, in all cases for the sake of the conversation; a Chevy Dealership that also deals in service for Saturn vehicles.

This was part of the GM structuring when Saturn was shut down by GM- that there would be at least One authorized service center in specific geographical locations around the country.
